Hi,

I'm a 33 y.o male and have been a stutterer for as long as I can remember.

There are times where I relapse into more fluent speech, with a slightly controllable stutter, but there are times when I'm going through a very bad bout and my stutter becomes really bad, almost uncontrollable.

I have a lovely wife and two gorgeous baby girls who mean the world to me. They are the only non-judgemental people I know. Others tend to quietly laugh at my "impediment" and it really hurts when friends alienate you from time to time because of your condition. It's almost like they feel uncomfortable around me because of my stutter and therefore choose not to include me (& my family) in a lot of social gattherings. Hurts like hell!

I've only been open to a few people about my stutter and lately, the two mates I've been most open to are the ones who have continuously alienated me from time to time. It's times like these when you really find out who your true friends and supporters are in life.

I try so hard to keep a positive outlook on life and try not to let my stutter get me down, but it's very difficult, especially when it's holding you back from progressing in your career. I have so much ambition to succeed in my career, however, the dream jobs I'd love to apply for all require excellent communication skills and are customer facing roles.

Anyway, if anyone can offer any tips on how to control stutterng, it'd be greatly appreciated. I know there will never be a magical pill/cure for stuttering, but if I can get away with 95% fluent speech with minor tumbles, I'd be extremely satisfied and grateful.

I've tried Smooth Speech Therapy a few times, but it never seems to address the problem long term. I'm considering The McGuire Programme, but right now it's out of my budget (AUD$2k). OUCH!

Looking forward to making some new friends on this Forum.

Be well and keep your heads up!

GOD Bless.

Hi all,

There's a very good self-help stuttering book available on an American guy's website. For its price it is excellent value for money - I'd recommend it to anyone. Just to let you know if anyone's interested.

This forum rocks - cheers.
