The Nastional Stuttering Association here in the US produced a video called Transcending Stuttering. I'm still waiting for delivery of the CD (as well as the books) I bought from the NSA but I just found it on Google Video.
WOW!
Don't make the mistake of watching this during your lunch at work. unless you want to spend 1/2 of your lunch drying your eyes.
Its about the shame of stuttering and features PWS who learned to accept and love themselves.
Here is the link. or go to google, go to video and search on Transcending Stuttering

Has anyone thought to show it to parents or family members? I've avoided them all for so long that I think they deserve some sort of an explanation. I lived 18 miles aways from my parents in an apartment in New york city. I never once invited them up in 11 years and I really only made it home a few times a year, mainly for holidays.
I am trying to bring out the extravert but this would be a very heavy conversation that I really don't want to have.
We have all been through a lot and I just think they would better understand where I've been and where I'm trying to go. I just don't want them worrying any more.
I'm not crazy, you'd have acted very similarly in our shoes.
I finally know its not important what people think of me but I still think they deserve this. I think I deserve this. I need to know that they understand why I've been so distant.
And off note, sorry I posted this thread in the wrong section.
people who stutter as a whole tend to be very distance and withdrawn and act like hermits because we avoid situations wher you have to talk and be social with others including family ,If showing your family a dvd helps them understand then do it but dont avoid them because you will just regret it later on when they are no longer here

I watched it at the weekend and had a tear or eight in my eyes when the football player got chosen as team captain.
It was a very powerful film and the best part was it wasnt trying to sell anything or promote but to show people what we go through to survive on a daily basis.
