So I have this clsss, called "spanish pronounciation", and one must read a text, very short one, wearing headset.

So I had my exam today, was given 10minutes to prepare the words and so...
While doing that, I read out loud to myself and she must've also heard me, and I was completely fluent.

By the way, during previous classes I have also appeared fluent when reading to myself, but when reading to her I choke...

Anyway, so came the moment when she was listening in the headphones. And I couldn't even say the first two words! I was totally fluent 3 minutes ago!

We also tried to chat like everyday-like in spanish, but I choked there also.. How to get by in life???!

She approved me nontheless, only because she had heared me fluent before when she "stealth-listened" and I didn't know anyone was listening.

When it comes to test, I become mute.

I walked home in self-pity...

How can this be? Being aware that she overheard me, I am fluent, but when she certainly is listening, I choke. So thin line, yet so great effect.

May I add, we discussed this in swedish for 10minutes - and no blocks! Weird.. this is freaking me out.

Stuttering can really be confusing sometimes, its not like a blind person can see some people and not others. They can't magically see when alone...

Its very easy to feal sorry for yourself when dealing with something this frustrating.

Obviously its more stressful to be tested then it is to read alone.
Unless you work on dealing with these fears now the anxiety will just grow stronger next time. You need to address these fears. Maybe tell your professor that you have a stutter and might need more time / consideration.

Rather than feel sorry for yourself and continue to get more frustrated, depressed and fearful… try to learn from this experience. What could you have done to ease your stress?

Hang in there,
Ari
