View Full Version : Stuttering and Psychological problems.
Hi, reading random websites over the internet recently, I have noticed that alot of them have added that stutteres have a 50% more chance of experiancing Psycological problems than others, does anyone know why this is?
Looking at my problems, I wonder if they will be solved if I stop stuttering? What is Psycology exactly?
I have been to one at this place, and he was just talking about the stuff that I liked doing, and what I dont... and he was mentioning stuff about why I think I stutter, and he had his opinions.
I am thinking of going back to have Psycology, but I am only 13, and I wish to do it without my parents notice.
Sam.

ello Sam. I am also 13 and i stutter. Stuttering is indeed psycological. For when i am alone I do not stutter. It really would be much better if us stutterers can keep that alone mindset while being in public. That would get rid of the stutter altogether.
I have deeper problems than stuttering, and I thougt stuttering may be the cause as it has put me off many things, and yeah I think it is a psycological problem, not every counseller understands what its like to be a stutterer. I am not like other people, I dont go the way they do, I wont turn out like them. I am feeling today as if I am procrastinating, but the fact that I know i'll turn out who I want to be keeps me alive. Stutterer's are different to other people, I hate it how i am like this, but I'll turn out okay... I hope so.
Nice post Sam. Honest and sensitive. You'll turn out just fine, although maybe not as you had planned to.
We all have deeper problems than the ones we allow other people to see. As long as we don't hide them from ourselves, we will find a way to deal with them.
I have found that "speech therapists" never stutter themselves, and never have. Likewise, "psychologists" rarely admit to themselves that they have their own problems too.
You are pretty much on your own in this. Be brave and do your best with it.
There is more to life than being able to babble as others do :)
I just hate it how speech theapists only think that stuttering brings one problem - coummunication. But in fact it brings lots of problems that we unfortunatly have to deal with everyday.
I am just a man of mysteries who finds it hard to be who he wants to be. Blah, im 13, im going to enjoy the life I have untill I need to do something... *procrastinates*/
phsycologists talk about my problems, and why I think they have them. Otherwise, I think they are really good and change the way I think, to the person I want to be, even if they dont think its the right person.
It frustrates me that not many people dont have the same problem, well, the only person in my school. Im slowly getting there day by day. IT kills me.
