When I was in my early twenties, I was very shy and people in authority used to scare me. I was sent on an assertiveness course by the company I worked for. The course was a dale carnegie run one and it helped me enormously. The of the course was to take you out of your comfort zone and make you become more assertive and confident in situations that you used to shy away from.
If you get the chance, go on one.
Also, as I got older I become more confident in who I am, what I can do and stopped people walking all over me, also I realised that I cant please everybody all the time and am only concerned in not hurting people who are important to me.

Sounds like a good idea for anybody who stutters.
I never went on an assertiveness course perse but I did go on a leadership course while in high school.
I always had a take charge mentality after I built up confidence but have always needed an extra push to combat avoidance of new situations.

I wonder about this guy who often visited the place I work to fix the printer that often broke down. He seemed very arrogant, and acted like he was god's gift to women!! Could that be he is a very assertive guy who does not mean any harm...?? Or could he be an arrogant jerk as stated above.........?

I haven't taken any assestive courses, but have taken some leadership courses and I have used many of those teaching in my personal life. I'm an quiet, shy, slow to anger kind of guy, but when I feel threatened or to prove that I can hold up my end. I play ball. Last summer, playing slow pitch, at this one games, we got points for cheering. Since I was the bench warmer, I took it upon myself to cheer as loud as I can for the team. I didn't have to do it, I could have sat back and enjoyed the game. If you have an chance to take an assertive course, take it and try to included many of the teachings into your personal life.
