I'm not sure if most of you are familiar with MTV's True Life. It's an award winning documentary show that tells incredible stories of certain things young people go through. They follow the lives of people and the specific things that their disorder or whatever affects makes them go through. They've covered topics from autism to taking steroids.

They are now looking for people who stutter to air on their show where they'll be videotaped of what they go through everyday. Here are what they are looking for:
(Taken from MTV website)
"True Life: I Stutter Do you have a noticeable stutter that affects your day-to-day life? Do you face constant ridicule and embarrassment at school because of your speech impediment? Were you expecting to outgrow your stutter but haven't yet? Is it keeping you from having a normal social life? Do you take classes or see a specialist to help minimize your stutter? Are you considering a surgical procedure to overcome it completely? If you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 28 and want to share your story with us, email stutter@mtvstaff.com with all the details of your problem. Please be sure to include your name, location, phone number and a photo if possible."

You can check it out at http://www.mtv.com/ontv/castingcall/index.jhtml?castingId=1486761

I'd thought I'd tell everybody just in case they might be interested or you just wanna be on the lookout for when this episode possibly comes out.

I went to that website, and sent them the info they requested. Gave them my phone number, name, and posted a story about how I got my stutter, how long I had it, how I cope with it, and basicaly a bio of me and my stuttering..........

I sent that info 1 week ago, and I still have not heard back from them!

That's great for you. Even though they haven't emailed you back or anything you should feel proud that you are trying to get information out to the masses that stutterers are real people with real feelings who have no control over their stutter.

I just hope they make the episode but I expect it'll take a while before it even airs and I ain't the sort of person to wait.

I'd thought people would be more interested in this but it doesn't seem they are. This makes me excited knowing that this is going to educate those who have ignorant views on a stutterer.

There aren't many things I think sound less appealing than being on a reality show of any kind, but this could be interesting to watch. I'm not sure how I feel about the questions they're asking, though. They seem kind of exploitative, but all of the topics had questions that seemed that way.

I don't see how the questions being asked are exploitative. Please explain.

Not my cup of tea but it's cool that the topic is getting awareness. I've often wondered if there will ever be a movie, reality show or something that sheds some light on what it is like to stutter. I like most of the "True Life" shows and look forward to watching this one. Thanks for posting this.

A series about stuttering would be ideal!!!

If it raises awareness of the problem i'm all for it. As long as it's tasteful. I don't want to see a bunch of people in front of an auidence like on those horrible day-time talk shows.

If you've seen the show, it's not really like that. Granted, tasteful is not something you see from Mtv too often, but I think the "True Life" series is usually done tastefully. It's more of a documentary type of show not a freak gallery like Springer. They will probably pick 3 or 4 people to follow around and a couple of them will probably be pursuing treatment. I'm very interested to see it. Does anyone know when the show is schedule for air?

It sounds interesting. I've watched a few; the last ones I saw were on autism and OCD and they were really eye-opening on the disorders. Too bad I'm only 14/15, so I can't try to enter.
