Guess I should make my first post here. Been reading off and on for several years.

I'm a 45 yo man with what I call a mild stutter. My mother stutters, my sister did for a short time eary on, and both my sons stuttered for a short time (5-8 years old). We participated in the genetic study a number of years ago. Never heard if they found anything.

I spent many hours in "therapy". Last was when I was 17-18 at a University. I'm one of those who can talk about stuttering (or read out loud) all day without a problem. So I'd sit around a table in group therapy and listen to all these poor souls much worse off than I. They'd try tricks like accusing me of cheating on test to stress me to the point of stuttering. I quit going.

Once I was put on a delayed audio feedback system - it seemed like it could really help but it was about the size of a suitcase.

But still, I stutter and everyone knows it. I was terrified of anything related to speaking - girls, class, business.

While I have never done an illegal drug, I'm not above trying any number of those currently being discussed. Even signed up for the Pagaclone study if they ever contact me. I may also show my Doc the "Hope Document" and try propranolol.

Wow, several years. You must know many of us and seen so many come and go. Don't have much to say then, just a big warm welcome.

Welcome aboard Red, better late than never. :D

What kind of therapy were you in where it was tolerated for others to try to trick you and upset you into stuttering?
I would have quit too, but only after introducing the offenders to Tooth and Fang.

I never had much to add, and it sure didn't seem like there was anything new.

None other than the University of Kansas at Lawrence. Sheesh - they stuck me in a room alone, one of the therapists came in and gave me some drivel about how they had talked to a teacher, all the while the other therapists watched behind a one way mirror. That was about the last time I showed up there - although my parents thought I was going :o
