Hello everyone,

Just recently I've been researching about my stutter, which I've had since I was 3 or 4 (I'm now 21); I came across this forum and decided to sign up.

As far as the severity of my stutter, I don't think it as bad now than it's been in the past. I do still get nervous when meeting new people and even have trouble mumbling out my own name. And of course the dreadful "telephone", which I just answer anyways. Over time I've come to the resolution that I do stutter sometimes, but the more I think about stuttering in certain situations, like clockwork, the more it happens when I do those things.

People have mentioned, and I've noticed first hand, that when under the influence of alcohol their stutter seems to lessen. It helps to break that fear of meeting new people and you probably aren't thinking about stuttering. So when Joe Blow, the frat drunk, stumbles over to introduce himself mid burp you seem to be able to do the same.

So, I'm at the point were unless you've known me for some time, you probably wouldn't know I stutter. I've just had to get the fear of stuttering out of picture.

My father says I remind him of a Bruce Willis interview
where he mentions that he grew up with a terrible stutter, but when on stage, it seemed to go away.
I've taken acting lessens and plan on going to Second City Chicago to take writing and improv courses.

Of course, before I do any of these things I'm very nervous over the chance that I may stutter, but when it comes time to do my line, for some reason, I don't.
