First of all i have to say WOW! This is such a wonderful resource for anyone who has a stutter or a stammer. I wish i had found this sooner.

Well to start out my story i had a minor stutter when i was in elementary school. It wasn't really to bad, i spoke fluently was very bright and had many friends. It was only when i was extremely nervous when it would pop up and become an issue. Life seemed to be great at the time with friends and family and not a worry in the world. I even had a few leading roles in the a play and a few musicals in junior high.

My high school career seemed to be a great new experience but in the middle of my freshman year my stutter came back. I went from being able to recite General Orders word for word for JROTC to stuttering and stammering on every other word. From then on it seemed to go almost down hill from there.

Like some others here, there experiences with a stutter had held myself and them back from many new opportunities. After that point I seemed to be more antisocial and just stay by myself because i didn't want to stutter in front of anybody.

I'm now almost 20 and am really trying to turn my life around. I have awesome friends that really care about me and I want to be "vocal" and not really the quiet one of the group because I have nothing to say. I understand that only with determination and support can anyone achieve any success through anything in life. Talking to an unbiased ear about this is really helpful. Again I want to thank everyone who makes this such a wonderful resource.

Welcome Robert, good to have you here. I often thought of myself as a quiet one, but I have met an few non-pws and they are even more quiet than I am. I just have to break the silence and start an conversation but I usually get a smile or a nod. Talk about the strong silent type.

Once again, don't be shy and give us a chance to get to know you.

When I first came across this site, so many of these posts were very familiar to what I was going through and noticing. I haven't really met anyone else who stuttered tho so I don't really know what's it like from a fluent point of view. But, talking to others with the same problems really helps out.

Standing tall, does pws stander for "poor white stutterer" by the way?

I apologize if it was offensive to anyone at all. I didn't really read the post thoroughly enough tho. Thats my mistake.

But, I do believe though that people need to find humor in situations that aren't always the most ideal. With that they could actually "pull through" and it would not be as horrible of an experience as it could have been. Afterwards they could look back at it and have some positive result from it.
