...some other stutterers out there have it worse than us. i'm not taking delight in this fact, just that we are not alone out there and this forum is good for this.

i was reminded of this a week ago where i was in the computer lab at my school and there was this guy talking with his group about an assignment or something and his stutter was pretty bad. he was constantly getting out of breath on everything he said. his groupmates were doing the best thing i'd seen in response to a stutter and thats to be patient, ignore it and NEVER bring it up at all. they just waited for him to finish. when i was younger i hated when people would finish a word/sentence for me in anticipation of what i wanted to say. it was frustrating..thats why i developed my "techniques".

sometimes when i see things like this i wonder which is worse, having a "covert" stutter as where people hardly notice at all or being like that where everyone knows and you don't have to worry about being "discovered" or keeping up the facade forever.
this guy never has to worry because "the secret is out".

on the other hand i'm glad that i can at least be 80-90% fluent so i can get my point across but of course total fluency would be nice now wouldn't it!?!?!

i think stuttering is differnt to blocks, and i find that i dont stutter anymore, but i block.

i feel that i'm really lucky compared to other stutters, cause i have it easy, but its still a hump in life.

most people know that i stutter/block, although i try my best to hide it. i've come to the point that i have enough fluency to say most things, but i wont say anything if i know i will block.

I know that we are lucky I guess. Us minimal stutterers. I find I stutter more than block but i have it like under control. Its odd.

Here is how it is for me, now, today...
I stutter. I know I stutter. I know I am going to stutter.
But when I do, I stop, take a pause. Breathe in, breathe out. Smile a bit. Look a little wistful, a little crestfallen. Then I continue.
This makes the listener listen. it shows resolve. And most of all. I don't get into a raging fury any more.
You guys who are minimal stutterers are lucky, sure, but no luckier than anybody else. You pay just as much as very bad stutterers, because - after all - everything is relative.
Maybe I'll take a break from this forum for a while.
I think I've given it about all I have to give already.
But more probably, these automatic emails I keep getting will prove impossible to ignore :)
Asif.

Thats a good technique...Not rush through your stutters. Just take a breath and smile...I should try that. It seems the listener would respect you if you do that.
