Right, i'll make a new thread so it doesn't get confusing but this is too say i've just got back from The Starfish Project.

Before i went on the course i'd say & other would say i had a severe stammer, my mum makes my calls & i avoid asking stuff etc, used to make body movements look around & mouth wide open while trying so hard to get that word out.

All i can say it's the course is amazing I've done things i wouldn't of done before like going into a cd store & asking for the new Paul Mccartney ablum, asking for a lotto ticket & asking when the train to london is arriving, this is proof how much the course works. Sure i wasn't 100% fluent but that's not the point, the point is i put myself in a position i would'nt of before.

The breathing technique is using a costal breath then talking just before you exhale saying a few words every breath, it's taught to you so that at the end of the 3 days you won't try to push through words anymore (Becomes a habit, so you automatically stop when you come to a stammer) & you will keep eye contact with the person you're talking too which makes stammering worse when you look away.

I phoned my bank today & paid a bill via the phone which my mum would usually do.

All i'm saying is give the course a go, if you can get a flight over to the U.K it will be the best trip you've ever taken.

i'm glad the course worked for you, for an overted stammerer you can gain control over your speech.

Right now your in what i like to call "the honeymoon" period, your confidence is really high because you have been practising that tecnique non stop for the last 3 or 4 days.

I would like you to keep us informed over the next few weeks with how it goes.

But really the tecnique is just taking a deep breath before each word, thrown in with a motivational speech.

Like i said before, if your an interiorised ( covert ) stammerer stay clear, also if your thinking this tecnique will ever become subconscious, i'm afraid your in for a rude awakening.

But everyone to their own, i'm glad it worked for you mate.

Hi,

Yes, the technique has to be used all the time otherwise you go out of shape, there was some recovering stammerers on the course who you wouldn't be able to tell had a stammer but they say if they don't practice everyday, they go back to stammering which is very interesting for how fluent they are.

I think the thing that's helped me the most in confidence, & that's one of the main things we struggle on, i don't have a whole lot for walking in & asking for a loan yet but more then what i used to have.

Yes, i just think everyone who's thinking about doing it, should. It's worth the trip if you can get over here & it does boost your confidence.

Thanks timitao, i'll keep you updated.

Chris.

Hi Chris,
The starfish program sounds very similar to the mcguire program. I went on the mcguire program at the beginning of the month and understand how you feel. I felt so good coming back from it and doing things that I had never done before. I was calling and doing everything that I would never even thought of doing like you are. Good job and keep working on it. With the starfish program to do you get support after it is done like mcguire does?

Hello,

Yes, you can go back at anytime & you get a phone list to the recovering stammerers.
There's a support group a few minutes from me aswell which is handy.
