on the 20th october is National stuttering awareness day.

This is our day, a day where we can show the world what it is like to have a speech disfluency.

It's all very well saying in these forums how ppl don't understand us, or how much pain we have had through bullying, but the only ppl who can change ppl's views is US no-one else will do it.

They say " actions speak louder than words " thats never been so true in our case. This is why i would like us all to come together as 1 to use the 20th october as a day to let the world know how we feel.

A day to express ourselves, our emotions, to others in the hope that the general public will learn to understand us more.

I am planning an art exhibit involving myself down in london. I hope to express myself and encaptulate all the emotions felt by a stammerer in my dark live art piece.

I would like to hear from people who would like to be involved in raising awareness, whether it just be coming down for support or actually getting involved in some art yourself.

I think by using our skills we can help change the image of stuttering for the next generation.

" be the change you wish to see in the world "

I want to get involve but i cant go there, i'm too far.

I hope we also have that in our country.

Well, I've started talking to some therapist here to have an association to raise awareness here in our country.

where are you from meej? my vision is to see october 20th as a day where people can be enlightened about the struggles of having a stutter.

I'm currently writing some poetry as well wish i hope to read out down in london.

I just think its a great time for us all to get out ofour comfort zones and raise awareness so that it my make a small dent in peoples misconceptions of a pws.

I'm glad to hear you spoke to your speech therapist, i think that if your country hasn't got much awareness then you should look to come up with ideas with your therapist.

yes you can print off the poems. The one that's on there now wasn't wrote by me, but i have a few in working progress.

Haven't really been writing poetry long, so don't think mine are good enough to put on just yet, but i'll definately keeping putting up ones i find that i feel everyone will like.

To put them around your school would be a great idea and would raise awareness.

I think it's important to take a different approach in raising awareness as stutterers for years have been using comedy, which i feel doesn't justify our pain.

timit - How awesome. The brits are so much more progressive with awareness. The most I can say is that I was be in a photo with the mayor of our city and one other stutterer for stuttering awareness day back in June. While there was a proclamation signed by the mayor to that effect. Maybe five out of 1 million ppl here had any knowlege of it or became more aware. Make it happen dude
