Hello my name is Claire, I'm 15 years old and I have had a stammer ever since I can remember..
I have always looked for a friend with a stammer but I've never been successful, when I got told about Forums I thought about one for people with stammers, I was so happy to find this website :D
I have zilch confidence in myself and I thought I would feel more at home here talking to everyone on here and I feel more at ease seeing that everyone actually KNOWS how I feel!..
I have been going with my boyfriend for almost a year and a half now and I really love him but we have had several arguments about my stammer when he tries to help but I hate talking about it because with my parents I'm used to them forcing me into things like talking properly, some people don't understand.. I don't know how to help my boyfriend, Marc, understand.. Any advice?..
Thank you for using your time on reading this if you have lol, hope to talk to some of you =)

hi claire pleased you found the forum.

with regards to advice about you bf, dont be to hard on him. people try and help and although it is frustrating they dont know any better.

all you can do is tell him how you feel, and explain to ask him to be there for you when your feeling down, but not to make your speech a big deal, cos its not everything.

and wow love? your 15! waaay too young for love lol

hope you enjoy the forum, tim

Welcome Claire, you will find many people here willing to talk with you, so don't worry. I can even start the lineup. :D

Some advice for your bf, hmmm. I think first you need to understand what kind of support you need from him or from anyone else. For example, if you want people to treat you like you are a normal person on the street, then let him know that. This is on going, day to day, remember nobody is a mind reader, so you have to share. You have to let the communication lines remain open and both ways. You have to understand what kind of help you need, if it is just for support or just to listen. You have to decide that and you can tell him what you want from him concerning your stutter. I think you know what i am talking about, if not let me know and i can explain further.
