Hello everyone

I am 20 years old and I live in Alberta, Canada. I am currently in the second year of College for Geomatics Engineering.

I have stuttered my entire life. Some days it is 10x worse then other days. It seems to be wildly unpredictable and I HATE IT! My dad has also stuttered his entire life. Hopefully I can overcome this but it has gotten worse, not better it seems.

In grade 11 and 12 my stutter was very minimal. Only people I knew very well even knew I had one. Now it seems to be back in full force. Just in time for job interviews and college. Heh.

Nobody has ever really made fun of me because of my stutter (to my face anyway, we all know they do it behind your back). I just hate how uncomfortable a person becomes when you are trying to talk to them but can’t quite get out what you want to say.

I have always been a very quiet person. I have only had 1 or 2 close friends at a time in my life (was forced to move constantly as a child). I think this is because I really do not like 1 on 1 conversations with people I hardly know.

Some of my most embarrassing moments caused by my stuttering. One of them was last week. I was the designated driver for some people at a party. We are all ready to leave and some guy takes my keys because he thinks I was drunk and trying to drive everyone home. Was very embarrassing trying to tell him about my stutter and that I am completely sober. Another one was when I got pulled over for speeding and forced to take a sobriety test because I could not answer the police officers questions.

I feel like my stutter has limited my entire social life. I have broken up with girls I asked out that I liked, before we even went on our first date because I knew I was going to stutter through the entire thing.

I never even knew there was a stuttering forum. Wish I found this a long time ago. Nice to hear from other people who are like me.

/End Intro/Rant

Hi and welcome to the forum. I know how you feel when you mention how hard the stutter can be at times and the how it can lead to embarrassing situations.
