Hello.. I was trying to do some research on stuttering and I found this forum. I read a few posts and I found them very informative and similiar to some of my previous experiences.
Little about me, i'm a 22 year old Student who has been stuttering most of my life. When I was a kid my stutter was really bad and I couldn't say my own name sometimes even, but now it has improved greatly over time. I only really stutter now when I'm trying to describe / answer a question / explain something if that makes sense to anyone. I can fluently make small talk and answer small 1 liner questions so most people don't even know I have a stutter, but if someone asks me to describe a movie or something I'd have a very hard time doing it so I usually tend to avoid questions like that. I'm going to graduate soon, so I'm def NOT looking forward to job interviews, especially since now every single job listing I see has the words "excellent verbal communication skills required" at the very top reminding me of my problem...
The most embarassing moment I can remember was when I was forced to take this public speaking class and the class was pretty small so the prof would randomly ask people questions and start conversations, so when it came my turn i'd always answer with "I dont know" or give small dumb answers even though I actually knew what to say. A few weeks later he kicked me out of a lecture because I wasnt "participating", and then later after class when I told him I had a stutter he just blew it off and said "That's too bad" and reminded me that active participation was worth a good chunk of my final grade and I was failing..
Anyways, happy to be here and look forward to hearing from you =)
