I just joined the group and I am looking to meet young professionals that stutter. My name is Nicole and I am 26 years old. I just graduated with my MBA in marketing and I can not find a job. I think it is largely due to my stuttering during interviews. Many of the interviews I do are for very large companies with headquarters in different states so the interviews are done over the phone, which makes my stuttering much worse. I think that people assume I do not know an answer to a question if I pause or can not get a word out. I am very frustrated that I can not find a job. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice. Also because I am jobless I have plenty of time to talk so....if anyone is bored, feel free to talk to me!

Could you possibly get someone else to do the over the phone job interview for you? As it is being done over the phone then I suppose no one would know that you were not doing the talking yourself. It is probably not something you would want to get involved with but it is all I can think of.

Ouch marketing, I heard interviews for jobs in that feild are brutal because they expect you to sell yourself so well.

What I would do is tell them outright at the start of the conversation when they ask you to tell them about yourself that you stutter, emphesise and convince them that it does not make an impact on how you would perform at your job.

Other then that in that feild you just got to learn how to interview really well I think.

Hello Nik, good to meet you and looking forward in hearing from you. I'm still young at heart and don't really consider myself an professional. I do work in Natural Resources and I have been on both sides of the table during an interview. I have read many resumes and i suggest you punch up your resume, on the stuff you do know. Many will glance over it, highlight important info and a few will read the whole thing. Take your time during the interview, and try and keep an conversation going. After a few minutes, you will find your comfort zone and your speech will improve. We can go into great detail, but those are my quick advice for now. Chat later.

Hey Nicole! My situation is a lot like yours, although I haven't graduated yet i'm doing my final year and there are a lot of recruiters everyday on campus where I do job interviews that aren't going very well!

If you ever wanna talk about the job hunt or share stories feel free!

Good luck to everyone on finding jobs!

Im 27 and im a web designer, because ive worked for myself for about 5 years now i have not had to do any interviews, if i have to deal with a client on the phone either i goto the pub first or i avoid the conversation via the phone and email them.

I dunno about anyone else, but using the telephone scares the *$&** out of me lol, its most proberly the number 1 fear i have when it comes to my stuttering.

A good tip I read somewhere is that after mentioning that you have a stutter, ask your interviewer if they think speaking or listening is the more important part of communication. They'll always say listening!

Hey Nik,

Don't give up

Do what you fear

I fear of telephone, and I do make calls every day. doesn't matter if I sometimes stutter.

As long as fears don't stop us to do something, they are good.

At the time of interview say to your interviewer confidently that you sometimes stutter, but it doesn't stop you to do what you want to do, and thank them for their understanding.

Then you will feel better, and can do the interview on the phone with higher confidence.

Know that the other person on the phone has his/her own fears too.

So just relax, smile, and pretend to be confident.

Do it, don't give up, don't let the stutter stop you to get what you want.

Others are like you 2, maybe others get job after 5-10 interviews, you will get after 20 interviews, but difinitely you will get the job after some attemps. 100% gauranteed, and stamped ;)
