Here's my situation...

Next week I have to do a presentation for an English class. Any presentation would be nerve-racking enough as it is, but this one cannot exceed 5 minutes. This is a very strict policy...there are 25 students in the class and time is very tight. Also, the teacher has made it a point to make sure that 5 minutes is BARELY enough time for a (fluent) person to concisely present all the information. So as you can see, I've got a bit of a problem here.

Last year I was in a similar situation. Most kids gave powerpoint presentations of about 20 or so slides. In anticipation of taking much longer than everyone else, I made my presentation about 10 slides. However, I hadn't even gotten through my 4th slide when I got cut off due to time. Not only was it humiliating, but I got a C on the presenation.

Any suggestions?

tb- is it possible to ask your teacher for more time for the presentation since you stutter? I would think he or she would be a complete jerk to not try and accomodate to what you need.
If not, maybe you could arrange to present what you can in the time allowed, and then present the rest in private to your teacher so your grade won't be hurt?

Speak to your teacher about your concerns. I'm sure that you can come to an amicable solution.

Had the presentation yesterday. I was surprised at how well it went. I stuttered badly, but not any worse than in normal conversation. For the first time ever I actually found myself being more worried about what I was saying than how I was saying it, which felt awesome. I think a main thing that helped was that before I began, I said that I stuttered (I actually used the words "speech impediment"...which I later realized was ironic, since the presentation was about how political correctness has hurt society!). Seriously, I think it's good advice for everyone to say that you stutter before making a presentation! Even if you think your audience already knows that you stutter, you might be surprised...they might not have made the connection, and (unfortunately) may have thought you had a mental handicap or something. Announcing that you stutter makes it so much easier!!

I'm glad to hear it went well. So you would be willing to do it again?

I suppose...I would still be nervous about it though.
