I have a big problem with blocking when I stutter. When I start speaking and stuttering I get a funny sensation in my head, as if my mind wants to shut down. I get these strange emotions bursting inside my head, not because of the humiliation but because of the physical act of stuttering. I feel as though my brain's wiring is faulty. Whenever I'm forced to speak continually for over 3 minutes it worsens to a point I can not speak anymore so I'm left dumbfounded and speechless. Really it's like a feeling of the brain getting a fuse and shutting down.

Do any of you stutterers experience this? I think it's dopamine related. I took some dopamine-inhibitors and I speak fine with fluency!

I have these feelings too. I also think it's dopamine related.

Scientists believe that stuttering is secondary to increased dopamine levels. The theory is that with decreased dopamine levels, stuttering decreases.

Usually, my stuttering is worse when
- i have too much caffeine or alcohol
- not enough sleep
- after a heavy meal

All these are related to dopamine levels.
