I see everybody making posts about their doctor helping them with anxiety problems and talking to them about stuttering. Is this your personal (family) doctor or is it a psychiatrist or a neurologist?
I really didn't know if insurance companies would let a regular doctor write a prescription for anxiety medications, etc.

Hi Eddie,
Yes your family doctor can give you medication for anxiety. When I wanted to try medication I just went to her and asked. I think that a psychiatrist would be better in finding the right medication and amount for you though.

a psychologist is what ur after, it helps ur behavuoral problem which makes the stutter. like as in when ur in a situation u fear of u would stutter so u wouldnt do it, so they will help you by putting u in sitautions like that but with less people so u can practice, and it has worked for me so yeah. ur doctor can refer you to one. dont take the medicine its a watse of time, its just there to make people happy and stop whining about stuttering. ask any1 who has had help from a psychologist , i will bet u they have improved.

Eddie, I took Prozac for about 10 years. It worked great at first few years. Everything in life became a pleasure, including my stutter. I went from an anxious angry stutterer to a really nice guy. I was convinced it was a miracle drug, planned to take it for the rest of my life.
But as life moved forward with normal changes, I noticed that events in life became either acceptable or I ignored them. I wasn't being challenged to grow. Life had seem to lose it's contrast. I was missing something.
For about a year now, anti-anxiety meds free. I am dealing with life as it comes without medicinal filters.
Life is tougher now - but the rewards and confidence builders for challenges I overcome is a far better feeling than the pleasure the prozac provided.

Eddie - hard question. When I decided to go covert with the stutter and come out of the stutter closet, I dropped the anxiety meds.
So, in my attempts to expose my stutter to the world, I speak in more situations that I used to avoid. Hence, I speak more and I stutter more. Not fun.
What's even more unfun is listening to nonstutters' cures for me. That too has increased. Everyone wants me cured.
I believe that few nonstutters are really comfortable listening to a stutterer.
