I know a few stutterers, but stuttering doesn't seem to bother them as much as me. So, I haven't said anything to them about stuttering, and I'm not a groupie person anyway.

Maybe the best way to get a group going in your area is to start a thread on this site, to try to find people in your area who are interested.

Hi Lemon,
You could find a self help group through the british stammering association. I know that we have them through the nsa in the united states. Look up british stammering association I'm sure you'll find groups on their website..

One of the better self help groups is the National Stuttering Assoc., formerly the National stuttering Project. I was a member of the Dallas group, the NSP is organized nationally.

Lemon - stutterradio has its maiden voyage, saturday Feb 9.
I listened in. It went rough but the concept is a breakthrough for many who don't attend a support group. You listen online to the program anytime and email and you can talk to the host during the airtime. I think it is truly going to be a godsend for many.

Here is the ad for the program --

[I]Visit a stuttering support group without leaving home ?
There are local support groups for those who stutter in many cities. Typically, these are group meetings that are held weekly or monthly. A support group is a wonderful place to feel that your stuttering is accepted and supported. It is also a time to feel relaxed and a time to feel like speaking freely. Some of the many benefits of attending a local support group include help with therapy carryover, self-help programs, coping, public speaking, job interviews, self-advocacy, self expression, and comfort, just to name a few.

Stutter Radio is a weekly commercial-free live radio program for those who stutter that's broadcast live SATURDAYS at 9 AM ET. You can listen, you can call-in, or you can use "chat" to write comments and ask questions. The first broadcast is Saturday, February 9 at 9 AM ET. Join us at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/stutterradio

I joined a National Stuttering Association support group at my university. I HIGHLY reccomend joining one! I have made some great friends and feel sooo comfortable talking around them. It's great, they are GREAT support :)

Hey, I liked the Stutter radio thing, I just listened to the show from Saturday morning. I'll try to remember to listen next Saturday, although that's early for me on a Sat morning. Did other people on this board listen too?

I liked the first woman who called from NC. I just liked her attitude...twas cool...

Does anybody know who Rick Burk is? Maybe I'm supposed to recognize his name?

Was it me, or was everybody who called into that show pretty fluent? We need to hear some real nice stuttering on Stutter Radio! Heh. :) Maybe I'll call in next Sat and stutter up the place like crazy... hee hee.

:)
