emily - As they are a west coast group I am so glad they are doing the east. This is the first visit for NYC. I went to the Atlanta conf.(my 1st even though it was their 30th) The event was so unbelieveablely life changing.
My first experience of the NSA conference was so intense and overwelming that I've been counting the days until June 25 in anticipation for this year's conference.

Emily, if there is anyway you can make it over, I would highly recommend the conference. I attended in Chicago in 2005 and had a great time.

Adrian- I guess it kind of depends on how much it costs, plus travel costs, how many days we'll have to ask off work, etc.

I'm considering it, especially since I'm only about 20 minutes away from Parsippany. Money might be an issue though, as I'm just a poor college student.

I'll be there!! So pumped for it!

I am unable to be there Thursday which is when the people who have never been to a conference are supposed to be there.

I am so mad because I won't be there on Thursday. Thursday is as just as important as Friday and Saturday!

My mother has to be at her teaching job on that Thursday.

But I will be there most of Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday!!

I have to make the most of what I can get!!

Hoping to hang out with some forum members!!

I like the notion of the beer!! Except I can't drink beer, only soda!!

That Thursday I cannot be there is ticking me off so I better stop typing or I might say something nasty!

God, chicks that stutter-send us single stuttering men to them!!

I think on Saturday night is a dance of some sort!!

Sorry, I don't dance with men!!! Only if you ask!

Where to go in NYC during this conference??

Where do we meet up?

Happy, great to hear that you will be attending. Don't worry about missing Thursday. The first timers meeting is a little too cheesy and kumbaya anyway.

happy - totally awesome. I missed the first timers session last year but I caught up by saturday. I can't wait to meet you.

Oh yea, they tell first timers - don't plan on sleeping at all while you're here. And it is so true.

The chicks - unbelievable. I never knew there were so many awesome females that stutter like me.

Sign up for the Saturday banquet. The music, dancing and the auction really brings the conf to a high point.

Are you kidding me!! I won't have time to sleep at the conference. I don't intend to miss a thing!

I still have yet to register.

How do I register and what do I sign up for???

Sort of sucks we have to register. We should just be able to show up, ya know!

The dance is a must!!!

What else:::

Party's, banquets, reccomendations::

I may even find a soulmate here!!

Night before I go, I will not sleep-i will be too excited to meet you guys and girls from the forum!!!

I wish this conference was more than Thurs, Fri, and Sat.

How can one do everything there is to do there in just 3 days, and for me , just 2 days!!

A few questions to those who have been before, what's the approximate age breakdown, usually? Are there a significant number of college-aged people, i.e. 18-22? Also, my mom has expressed interest in going, but would she get any benefit from it? (I am 19, so I would have no problem going on my own, and she does not stutter)

tb - I sent your question to my contact at the NSA.

Here is their response. From Debbie----

I am co-chair of the Family Programs and work exclusively with the parents, teens and kids at the conference.

Her answer - Last year we had about 25+ college-aged individuals at our conference. This seems to be the most rapidly growing age bracket at our conference. We even started a special workshop for this age group where the presenters talk about college and what to expect and how to handle situations. It is one of the most highly attended workshops at the conference! There are many workshops both in the teen and in the adult areas that I know will be very interesting and informative for someone of this age and there will be many people in this age bracket at these workshops.
Parents? I am the parent of an 18 year old daughter who stutters. My husband and I are both fluent but wouldn't miss the conference. We have learned so much by attending and listening to the stories of other parents and by sharing our stories. The conference has workshops specifically for parents only and there are experts, parents and even our Teens that speak to the parents about stuttering. It is a wonderful opportunity for fluent parents to learn about stuttering and everything that it is.
I do hope that both the teen and his Mom do decide to come to the conference. They will walk away on Sunday with an education, new hopes and ideas and many new friends.
Please feel free to give them my email address if they need more info or have any questions.
I hope that I helped.

I've never been but I'm looking to go this year (I live in NJ so it's very convenient!). I really don't know what to expect but I figure it can't hurt to go and see what it is like.
