Hi,

I'm just curious about the different methods of different speech therapists. Mine first gets me to go over my past week of event, then I have to read out some plosive words (words starting with T, P, D, K, B, and in some cases, other words), then lastly, I would have to answer more of my therapist's questions.

It's not always this routine, but that's basicly it. What about your speech therapist routines?

Jordan,
When your speech therapist goes over those plosive sounds w/ which you report trouble, consider asking him/her "Well, ok--but I don't really have any speech difficulties w/ those sounds-- I say them plenty of times just fine--especially in some situations--like when I 'm alone in a room--or when I'm here now.. I've certainly experienced saying those sounds fine--so I'm confused: why are we practicing ways to say them-- I know how to say them-- I just can't say them when I'm locked up/blocked--so is there anything we can do to stop me from locking/blocking up? If we do that, then these sounds wont be a problem at all!"

I go to groups.

How have you been?
Identify issues
Why do you have these issues?
Generate activities which may help with this.

Someone does a presentation on something stuttering related.

Close out with what we are going to do and try in the next week.

I like the relaxed atmosphere and find it more helpful than reading off worksheets.
