Hi
I am a stutterer who can speak pretty fluently when alone or when talking in a relaxed environment but I have a problem when asking a question to a person or when someone asks me a question specially where I live,Where I work,my father's name...although i were in a flow of fluency when someone asks me a question I immediately get tensed(specially in my stomach) and I couldn't say any word
Can anyone suggest me any tips to overcome this situation?thanks

Don't respond too quickly to the question. Take a few moments to think about what the person asked you, how you are going to answer and know what you want to say before you answer them. It takes a lot of practice but once you get it down, you can decrease your reaction time.
I used to practice this with a friend by getting him to ask me random trivia to which he knew I know the answers so that I had to force myself to think about the answer before answering. Hope this helps.

Fellow Stutterers,
Thank God for this site. A little information about me… I’m 41 and a life- long stutterer. I think that I am a pretty successful (Thank God) business owner. I own a couple different firms. Still, I am terrified to speak although my businesses require it of me. One of my businesses is a Insurance/Financial Planning firm, another a greeting card company while another I have authored a self-help book. I get so frustrated with myself as I wish fluency would, one day, be my friend. Regardless, I push on and you can too. I desire to be an inspiration/encouragement to those who desire it.
A couple ideas, I know those of us who stutter wish they could express themselves without the embarrassment of our speech. I found a way…my greeting card business…it’s awesome. You can try it for free at www.sendoutcards.com/10327 It’s a way for you to express your feelings in a card in a way that just won’t come out your mouth.
Another idea is to read my book. It clearly tells of my struggles and how I was able to deal with them.

Again, my role (here) is not to sell you anything but put tools in your hands to do something regardless of your struggle. You can overcome anything. Let me help!

I have the same problem. If I am ever asked my name, I cant say it. Among friends or after a few drinks I am fine, if I am on the phone, or meeting work colleagues - I physically cant say it. I also have the same problem with parts of my address. I think it is because I know I cant say it, so then I cant. Some methods that have helped me is to speak slower. It may sound like a cliche but if I pause and slowly move my mouth with it it helps.
It is very weird though, I am fine with my friends and family and not with strangers. I think it may just me a nerves problem???
