I found this article very interesting: http://www.journalofstuttering.com/1-2/Klein.2006.JSTAR.1.36-41.pdf

In short, students that are going to work with stutters are given the assignment to purposely stutter in public (pretend to be stutters). This paper discussed 2 students perceptions and interactions from this simple excercise. It is intersting to see how rapidly they become uncomfortable, self-conscincous, and perceive negative feelings from "non-stutters".

This was interesting.. i had mixed feelings while reading it. But what really caught my attention was what that one girl said in the end of the article, that she felt bad for taking up somebody's time, because of stuttering. I have this feeling quite often, like i don't have the right to speak when i want to or i should feel sorry for people who have to listen to me. This is because every now and then you talk to a person who makes you feel you're absolutely worthless being because you stutter... sometimes i wonder how sensitive one can become. I'd love to be able to look people in their eyes when i stutter just to see their reactions better.

I am curious to know if any stutter has tried voluntary stuttering in real life scenarios, and what was their reflection. i want to try it but I'd like to wit a another stutterer. It will be very revealing in our perception of stuttering. Somebody with balls try it and let us know

I often feel like you do. I feel bad about taking up people's time just because I can't get a word out. I have a horrible time maintaning eye contact when I'm talking.

I feel the same way. Some people are just not patient listeners. I had one guy ask a friend of mine if i could turn my stuttering on and off. Like there was a switch for it. Some people are just ignorant. I guess its all about surrounding yourself with patient people or at least learn to not think how hard it is to listen to you. I am my own worst enemy. I often think things that no one else is thinking all because of my self-confidence issues. If you just try to talk to people and you do your best to get across your idea, then if that person doesn't respond well, then they aren't worth your time and obviously not worth talking to.
