View Full Version : What's the Most Embarrassing Thing that has Happened to you?

I was just wondering what situation have you all been in that has caused you the most embarrassment because of your stuttering?
Mine: As I said once before mine was being in a class at Arizona State University and of course we all had to introduce ourselves on the first day.
I blocked so bad I couldn't say anything for about 10 seconds while everyone looked at me like I was crazy.
I didn't drop the class either because I needed it for my major. I already dropped classes before because I humiliated myself but I stuck this one out even though I got some pretty strange looks throughout the semester.

Wow, too many to name! I would say that class situations have brought extremely embarassing moments, but the worse I have had would be when i was younger and my "friends" would make fun of me in front of a group. Got rid of most of those friends, and the ones I still have know better  .

Another one:
When I was in Army bootcamp (a stutterers worst nightmare), everytime we would go to the "chow hall" the drill instructors had to take count to ensure everyone was eating and how many meals were served.
The way they did this was by having us all line up and one after the other we had to shout "Drill Sergaent," what branch of service we were and the last four digits of our SS#.
You can imagine the pressure you have already as a stutterer without drill sergaents breathing down your neck for a quick reply.
Needless to say after about 1,000 attempts I never did get it out smoothly and was yelled at by the drill instructors and mocked by my fellow soldiers.
The military is the worst place for a stutterer if you ask me - no mercy what so ever. And there's a lot more speaking requirements than you may think, it's not just doing push ups and firing weapons - you must be able to speak well. I don't no how I made it but I'm happy it's over.

Actually, I have embarassing moments almost everyday at my workplace. I have to call up people and companies on a regular basis and always seem to stutter at least once. Most of the time I will hold out a letter like Ssssss....or I will freeze up. Luckily, I work with my father and he would never say anything out loud about it. Other people have finished my words for me, so I know they notice.
I always seem to have trouble saying where I work without stuttering....... so bad :(

I remember reading somewhere that this guy had to read out loud from a book. In part of the book there were the words "...oh my, but...." don't remember what words came before or after but those aren't that important. Anyways the guy kept saying "oh my, but" and couldn't get the next word out. He kept repeating it over and over but it still wouldn't come out. The class laughed at him and the teacher sent him to the principles office because they thought he was saying "oh my butt" over and over. Poor guy lol
For me....there have been too many.
One of the worst ones I can remember was when I was in 7th grade (Now i'm in my 1st year of college). This was in History class and at the time we were studying World War II. Anyways, that day we were doing jeopardy to prepare for a test coming up I think. It was team based and i'm a pretty good student so I didn't wanna disappoint my teammates. One of the answers I had to give was to say Benito Mussolini (Italy's leader during WW II). So I go to say his name and when I go to say Mussolini, I get stuck on Mu and can't get the rest out. I sounded like a cow saying "Moooooo" for a few seconds. :o The class responded by laughing really hard. Actually, at first I couldn't understand what was so funny because the class already knew that I stuttered and they didn't laugh before. It was only after I thought about it that I realized what had happened.
Looking back at it, it's really funny and a great story to tell people.....but it's stories like this that eventually make me feel really depressed because my stuttering hasn't gotten any better since then and it's still a constant stuggle to speak.

2. my instructor ask to introduce my self, i got stocked about a minute, I stutter again. He shouted at me in front of many students. they're all laughing.
They don't know how it feels to be like this. :(

sigh..not really embarrassing as it was regretful but there was this really cute girl and she would always bump into me at school. She was really friendly and even flirtatious to me. All i could ever do was say hi and walk by cause i couldn't say anything. from far away she asked me my name i said it. thank god. i was about to ask her her name but my words wouldn't come out. i think that's when she thought i was weird. a couple days later. i finally got my courage and walked up to her and tried to talk to her. needless to say it didn't turn out good. people heard me try to talk to her and got rejected. i soon transferred cause it was my last semester. i never got to know her name.....
