Anxiety has basicly screwed up anchient history for me. during the Rome work we did in school alot of reading had to be done in class, alot of reading out loud. Now when i read out loud i dont stutter, although i get this HUGE sensation of Anxiety not wanting to speak to the class, so basicly the only thing that was on my mind was not wanting to talk, i didnt learn anything about Augustus and the Julio-claudians.
i'm basicly trying to tell anyone in school to not care what others thing, seriously, if u can break up the anxiety then u will be the strongest person ever. now when i think about it, i wish i just didnt care. because most of the time, my teacher didnt point me out to read aloud(infact i only did it once, and it was only 2 sentences, and i spent 50hrs in history doing rome, 10secs of speaking for 50hrs of anxiety) the anxiety was what made it a living hell, not the speaking.

Bobby- Sometimes when public speaking is a for sure thing, I try to make sure that I am the first one to do it. That way I can relax and enjoy what is going on around me later on.
Maybe you can raise you hand when the teacher is looking around for someone to read and just get it over with.
Not a perfect solution, I know.
I hope this idea helps a little because Roman history is really pretty fascinating.

I agree - anxiety is 90% of the cause for my stuttering.

I agree - anxiety is 90% of the cause for my stuttering.
I have had the same problem through high school and now in college. If I know speaking will be going on such as the teacher going around the room, I would begin to sweat, get nervous and only think about my speech. How people will react, can I get the words out just everything going through my mind.
I do recommend going first as well, just to get it over with and then you can relax. I have done this several times and it helps my speech as well because I am not dwelling on it.
I know I can speak, because I speak completely fluently alone or someone familiar. My anxiety and fear is the root of the problem.

Yea guys i agree. Its all in the mind. We have grow so used to the way we react to situations. It we can somehow be strong enough to control out minds i am sure it will only be a matter of time before we get control of this habit that we have formed.

Matthias-
You need to tell the teacher what the problem is. Do your teachers have email addresses? If so, send them one explaining what the problem is.
