View Full Version : Diet
There has been much talk about diet and stuttering. I would like to start an informative thread about the bad and good foods and how to look out for them. I hope that we have a nice consolidated list of good and bad foods with tips etc at the end of this thread.
So far I have gathered the following should be avoided.
1) Caffeine
2) Refined sugar (Not complex sugar - that is good for u)
3) Protein
Pls add to the list.
Well Caffeine and protein are easy ones because i know what foods/drinks I can find it in. I also know that soda's like Coke contain lots of refined sugar.
How do you know if other products contain good (complex) sugar or refined sugar. What are the things to look out for on the box (ingredients)? What are the good and bad foods.

I don't find sugar or protein bad.
My worst enemies are alcohol and caffeine.

737, this may varry a lot between people.
Caffeine does not make ME stutter more.
Refined suger doesn't bother me more than natural
suger or complex carbs.
A verry high protene diet just MAY make me stutter a little less.
All in all I seem to do better on a low carb high protine
diet like the maintiance phase of Atkins. But again I seem to do better when I am thinner. Or I may do better when I am thinner just because I am following
a low carb diet. But nothing I have tried helps my darn spelling!

I'm not sure if there are any good foods for stuttering, but bad wise, the biggest no no for me seems to be sugar, especially things like pop/ soda. Avoid them like a plague I say for many reasons.

they way i look at it is things like caffeine and sugar i try to say away from as they seem to make me talk faster when what i really need to do is slow down my speech rate. protein is fine for me i have a high protein diet an exercise alot so i need the protein. the things i find bad are soft drinks, to many sweets and to much alcohol (that night i'm fine but the next day my speech is worst) diet and exercise living healthy helps i believe, it's a postive step either way.

About sugar: you guys want to hear something ridiculous? Try and find the book Eat Well for 99c a Meal. Chapter nine has a picture of a skull and crossbones at its start and says "sugar is a slow (sometimes not so slow) poison". ..yes, that's the message of the entire chapter. Sugar will kill you. Stay away people, or you'll drop dead from that can of cola you have in you hand. Sheesh.
