Ok so just an update....I went to what I thought to day was a cognitive behaviour specialist, and well I was way of the mark, she was actually a metal health nurse  , anyways she knows the basics of cognitive behaviour therapy and will help me with it until my appointment comes along with the specialist one. As for the diazepam not sure if it’s working or not
She also explained to me that my doctor doesn’t really know about stuttering or what the curse is for it, most people including her thinks it’s a nervous thing….she explained that it too much of a chemical called dopamine in my brain…..which might be worth researching future.
However I am a bit disappointed in this as I thought that my doctor actually got what my shutting is about, at least she gets the end result right, which is a good thing when you need someone to talk to who understands.
The cognitive behaviour therapy to me still sounds interesting though and might be worth giving it a go, as I do avoid situations were I know I am going to stutter, I would be nice to walk into that bakery and order a coffee and a piece of chocolate without caring weather or not I stuttered or didn’t.:D
So fingers and toes crossed it might be a bumpy ride :D

Her stammer started when she was about six years old. I didn't realise she had a stammer to begin with, it was only when I described to her how a boy I was teaching had difficulty with her speech that she told me that was happening to her at school as well. I spoke to her teachers who confirmed that she did have difficulty speaking but they presumed I was aware of it. We went to the doctor who referred her to a speech therapist. As she got older she did become more disfluent and I obviously became more aware of her stammer. Unfortunately, speech therapy did not really work. The speech therapist didnt seem to know what to do with people who have a stammer. My daughter was taught several good relaxation techniques, which were very good to relax at the end of the day, but what was she supposed to do at school every day when she was sat waiting to answer the register (surname begins with T so she had a while to wait) becoming more and more nervous and panicky as the teacher went through the names! I noticed as she went into her teens she became more and more withdrawn and I felt I was letting her down because I didnt know how to help her. When she was eleven. I was tidying her bedroom and I found a piece of paper under her bed. On the paper was a list of the 10 things she most wanted to happen. At the top of the list was 1) I want to wake up one morning and find the stammer has just gone away.
Well, I was so upset, of course I had known how she must have felt not being able to speak when she wanted, but seeing it written in black and white just made it so much harder. I decided there and then I had to do something. I searched the internet, just typed in stammering, eventually I found a link to website telling me about THE STARFISH PROJECT. I read through all they had to say and decided that I had to go for it, because, well waht other alternative did we have? Nervously I rang the number and was greeted by Anne Blight. I knew straight away just by listening to her voice that she was somebody we could trust. I told her about my daughter and we booked on to a course that summer. At the starfish project they have courses for adults and also young people. The amount of people on the course is limited (usually about 10-12 on each course) recovering stammerers are taught a costal breathing technique. You really need to check out the website to find out more about it. But I cannot stress enough how much this place as helped me and my family and most importantly my daughter. She is a differnt person and I am so proud when I hear her ask for things in a shop or order a meal. Its nearly 6 yrs since she firts went on her starfish course. We try to return at least once a year, she then helps other young people with the techniqu and also works on her own speech. The website you need is www.starfishproject.co.uk . Please ring Anne and find out more about it, the projct is based in East Sus. Thanks Tracey.x
