Speaking of avoidances, I always skip the first day of class. Attendance usually doesn't count the first day because people are still adding and dropping, and that way I won't be there if the professor goes around and makes everybody say their names. That was hellish enough in middle school and high school, but at least the other students knew who I was, so if I couldn't get it out, somebody would say it for me. It's not likely I'm going to know anybody in my classes.

Part of me just wants to skip again, but part of me feels like this is something I shouldn't avoid.

I know what your saying.

I don't like it when Professor's make people do that, it's almost like they do it just to waste time. If I ever had to do it I would clear my throat or cough right before I say my name. "My name is *cough" Dan" that would work wonders for me. Obviously my speech therapist wouldn't recommend it but it gets me through.

No one likes speaking in front of others, same goes for non-stutterers.
