My names Niko, I am a lifelong stutter. Like everyone else i have good and bad days. I have recently discovered that taking a calcium and magnesium complex relaxes the muscles in your body. It certainly seems to relax the muscles in my throat. I have found that i am more relaxed and the bad days seem to be less frequent.
Another trick i recently discovered is to speak softly. It seem to give me more control when i struggle.
Hope this helps somebody
Thanks for sharing... How much do you take per day??

I take one 400mg tablet a day. They effects seem to hold up most of the day, that tight feeling in your chest and neck goes away. Holding thumbs it continues to work.

Forgot to say I am from South Africa. The product I use contains about 200mg calcium and 250mg magnesium and also contains bcomplex. I guess that any similar product on your shelves would have the same effect.
I have also read that this apparently has no adverse side-effects.
It has definately made me calm and focussed.

How did you find out about it ?
Was it your doctor who told you to take this complex ?

I read about it while searching for help on stuttering on the net. It sounded plausible so i tried it, not very scientific I know. But the difference for me has been like night and day.

Could you write the name of this product ? Maybe in Europe is too and it is possible that name of this product is the same like in South Africa :)

anyone else have this problem of it not working after a while?

Does the calm natural work?
What results have you got with it? and how long have you taken it for?
What is in the drug that makes it work?
Cheers

NATURAL CALM IS NOT A DRUG IT IS JUST A MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENT WHICH IS A NATURAL MUSCLE RELAXER. IT SEEMED TO HELP FOR A FEW WEEKS BUT THEN MY BODY SEEMED TO GET USE TO IT AND IT DIDNT HELP ANY MORE. IT DID HELP ME SLEEP GOOD BECAUSE IT MADE ME A BIT TIRED . BUT IT IS WORTH A TRY

I have been on the calcium and magnesium supplement for about two weeks now. It is still working for me, am still extremely calm and relaxed. There are still times when i struggle, especially on certain words.
But by being relaxed i can pull out of the silent blocks alot better then in the past and the rest of my speech is still quite good.
I should add that i do feel a bit more tired then lately.
Will continue to let you know how it goes.

Tips To Try
Do not avoid words
Do not avoid situations
It will just reinforce even more that you cannot do something and just make it worse next time....you cant keep on running away forever
Dont feel pressured to talk in a hurry
Think about what you want to say - formulate the words in your head before you say them
Eye contact - try and get eye contact with the listener - Its a toughie, but believe me, it will help after the first few times
Try and be confident and assertive as possible
Try not to get down on yourself so much - we may stutter, BUT we also speak fluently a lot of the time too - celebrate those times, dont just concentrate on the negative stuff all the time.
Thats my sermon for the day !!!
Thx

lololol ill take that as a compliment nate
i can stand them because im a big fan of survival horror games like res evil 5 and silent hill, so to me a night mare is like being in a survival horror game but with me in control, however i always tend to get a bad ending hehe, maybe thats what causes my stuttering, too much horror stuff makes me jumpy:confused:

I have been on the calcium and magnesium complex for close to a month now. I am still quite relaxed, but have been going through a tough patch lately. Really seem to be struggling with my speech even though i am relaxed. I also gave 5 htp a go for a few days but that seemed to make my stuttering worse.
The only thing that seems to be working for me lately is holding my throat with left my hand when speaking on the phone. It is almost like by holding my hand there i can feel my throat vibrate and it seems to keep things in focus. Pity i cant use tha trick when in other situations.
Anybody have thoughts on this?

I have been taking Magnesium as well. Since taking it I have noticed that I don't stutter as much. I take one 400mg tablet daily. I also take a fish oil tablet, a Men's daily vitamin and a B-complex vitamin as well. The only side effect is tiredness but it isn't overwhelming. I hope it continues too work!

Thats very interesting I"ve never heard anything like it before. I'll give it a try next time I'm on the phone. Its amazing what weird kinds of things can help different stutters. I recently realized I don't stutter when I whisper. I"m not using my vocal cords so they can't lock up which causes stuttering.

I started taking the calcium and magnesium thing today. My muscles really need a vacation from stuttering and I've had a rather bad speech experience today anyway.

Guys, read this.

I am trying this
Magnesium 250mg x 3
BComplex x 1
Calcium 300mg x 3 or 4
There is an article by DR. MARTIN F. SCHWARTZ in this post that touches on Magnesium, calcium and Bcomplex.

Seems to work for me. The tight feeling in my throat and neck area lessen due the Magnesium. And, I feel more relaxed due to the Bcomplex. Magnesium also lower your heartbeat making you feel more calm.
Coffee reduces magnesium and increase heartbeat. I am trying to cut down on coffee.
I have an allergy, taking antihistamine increases my stuttering and I can feel the tight feeling around my throat and temple area.

Just before I tried Manesium, Calcium and BComplex, I tried Valerin from Kalms.
Kalms don't seem to work for me. I feel sleepy and have a heavy feeling in my head due to the hops included as a sleeping aid. Thinking and speaking is slower.
With Magnesium, calcium and bcomplex, I feel relaxed but clear headed.

I recently switched to decaf coffee after 15 years of drinking my beloved regular. Oh I will miss it so. But it was getting to the point that after 2 cups I would be shaking and I wouldn't be able to get a full sentence out! One more thing that cannot worsen my speech :)

Same here. Coffee definitely worsen my stuttering. Too much, my heart would be pounding.
How about tea? I thought of switching to tea with milk. But I thought tea contains caffeine too.
Lack of sleep also worsen my stuttering a lot.
I am a heavy coffee drinker. The first drink I take in the morning is not water, but coffee. But I skipped coffee today and I feel good. I don't get the high and low energy swing. I am feeling energetic and calm.
Try the Magnesium, calcium and B Complex. So far, so good.

I shelved my speecheasy devise for the past two years but I am starting to using it again because I am looking to change jobs and going on interviews. I usually tell people that I am a stutterer and it used to work while I lived in a median sized city but in a mega city that I currently live in, they just don't cut me any slack since there are so many more qualified applicants. I usually put my speecheasy devide on the lowest possible volume so I can hear what people are saying not just my own voice. I also realized that I usually stutter more with the first few sentences or when the conversation is one sentence long back and forth. It does work wonders though when I am giving the chance to speak longer or when giving a presentation. Any suggestions?

I started trying this today. First day was good, I noticed an improvement, although could just be a placebo effect. I noticed no difference on the second day. Today is the third day!

I second that. Whenever I am not well rested, I am usuallu grumpy and can't quite relax so my stuttering is off the charts.

i have really vivid dreams and occasional nightmares which are like hell. i also used to have like half nighmares when i was like half asleep but definantly conscious.. it was like a projected image on top of what i could see when my eyes were open? haha is that like normal? they werent halucinations cause i knew they were not real and were just all part of my rather active imagination..and no i wasnt on anything.. but yeah i cant watch scary movies cause otherwise that ends up happening.. :( you are a wierdo Ayman. :p
