My stutter has just gradually been getting worse. I've tried breathing exercises and things on my own and just hope that it would get better but it is obviously not. Today has been the worse I've EVER had it and I'm thinking therapy may be the only option.
If i go to my doctor will he be able to help at all? Perhaps recommend me for therapy or something? Or do I have to look into it myself. I don't know were to start.
For people on therapy is it worth it?

I go to more of the emotional, self-esteem kind of therapy once a month. I think it helps enormously!!! It helps a little with my fluency because I feel better about myself and my mood affects my stuttering...but mostly it just makes my self-esteem go up and I feel less depressed to know and be around people like me :)
I'm not exactly sure how I found the support group I go to...I think I went to the NSA website and looked up support groups. Then, after emailing a few people I was directed to the chapter closest to home.
I don't know about therapy, I've never done any. Good luck :)

iv'e gone to therapy alot in my 37 years of stuttering. to make it work it takes alot of dedication, constant practice at home and in the real world, and you must do everything the therapist asks you for anything to work. being open and honest to people about my stuttering has been the biggest part of therapy thats helped me. it's the hardest too, after all we all try to hide our prblem from people. i agree with emily, support groups are a big part therapy, and it does boost your self esteem. plus you meet new friends as well.
just go to or call(as hard as that may be) some therapist in your area.

i think therapy is a great help if you are dedicated and motivated to improve your speech. i went to therapy back like 6 years ago for an intensive clinic and after the clinic i honestly thought i was rid of stuttering. i spoke fluently for about 3 to 4 months, it felt so great. but then because i didnt practice i didnt keep up with my maintenece routine i slowly slipped back into stuttering and over the following six years from my intensive my stuttering got so bad. until i decided to attend a refresher. i was so motivated and i was going to do whatever it took to improve. so i relearned the skills and practiced pretty much every day since then and i only have a mild stutter right now. i could if i wanted pretty much get rid of my stutter if i put in more practice time and stuff.... but to be honest iam fine wtih stuttering mildy. so my advice to you is get therapy if your at the point where your willing to do anything in the world to improve. also only go with an intensive clinic. one on one sessions like an hour a week doesnt do anything. my opinion intesnive clinics are the only way to go.

There is no point in seeing your doctor.
Research intensive residential therapy courses in your area.
