Hi everyone, my name is Hemal and I am located in Portland, Oregon. I am basically from India. I have been stuttering since I was 10. I am 30 now. As most of us, stuttering has affected my entire life and the way I think and behave. But I believe that if we maintain a positive attitude, keep our minds strong and get some help and support from friends and family then we can achieve whatever we desire.

By joining this forum I hope to learn from experiences of you all and share some of my experiences.

Hi Hemal,
I like your "Unshakeable" screen name because sometimes I think we all must be that way to get through a rough speech related event or period. That may not be what you meant by using that name but it was the first thing that came to my mind.

It is interesting that you are from India. I am a native of Kansas but I grew up in East Pakistan between the ages of 7 and 11 back in the 60's. I know that E Pakistan (now Bangladesh as you know) is not India but it is in your neighborhood. :)

My parents have wondered if spending those formative years away from speech therapy made my situation worse and permanent. Probably not, but parents tend to feel guilty about those kind of things.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. What kind of work are you in?

Hi Alok, sorry for replying so late (after over a month !!). Got held up in the routine things of life!! Yes I would like a copy of the e book you have. Send it to me at unshakeablefayth@yahoo.com

I have been reading the book "Physco Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz, since the past few weeks, it's really good. I think everyone should read it.

Hi oldwolf, sorry for the late reply.
I am a consultant in the IT field.
My screen name "Unshakeable" means exactly what you have mentioned, that is what all of us should strive to be no matter what happens in life!!

Especially for PWS this is the first and the most important step in overcoming stuttering. We all must have gone through many embarrassing and shattering moments in our life but unless we make ourselves "Unshakeable" and do not let ourselves get shaken by such incidents we cannot move forward.
