Islam is probably the most interesting religion I've ever studied. It's great to find so many cultures on this forum! I am an atheist but I find religion to be very interesting. I'm glad you shared this with us.

There is good in all religions, and bad. People glorify the bad aspects because they want to demonize and dehumanize the followers of Islam. It is a tragedy how much bloodshed there has been because it. Islam especially, there are a lot of positive ideas in it and people are scared of things that are "different". Especially in the U.S.

Eid Mubarak and happy Rosh hashanah to all!

Funny that the two holidays coincided. Both are times of spiritual cleansing and healing. Yet they still fight.
Shame really.
Salam and Shalom to all.

I'm confused (a new religion) but my children are Muslim. So we had a big do...Goat were massacred. Clothes and toys were bought. But i like the fact that Muslims believe so much in Charity and actually the food goes directly to the poor as do the alms and Tithe which are obligatory, Unlike Christianity where it goes to the church and you get told whats going to be done. Then a few months later the pastor has a new car...that shit is a bit weird.
But hey to each his own.
Bless
Nate

SST,

You say you find Islam very interesting - have you studied Sikhism, Hinduism, or Bhuddism? You'll find them just as - if not more - intersting.

">People glorify the bad aspects because they want to demonize and dehumanize the followers of Islam."
Why do people ant to do that? And why aren't they doing it to the followers on Sikhism, Hinduism, Bhuddism, Zoroastrianism etc etc?

">Islam especially, there are a lot of positive ideas in it and people are scared of things that are "different". Especially in the U.S."
It's very easy to critise the USA - in fact, I heard many years ago that
anit-Americanism is an acceptable form of racisim these days. I'm not from the USA, but I find your comments ("Especially in the U.S.") very naive. Try
going to a Muslim country and tell them you're an atheist and see how much acceptance you get.

All the best.

I've read that Muslims find the U.S. a much more appealing place to live than Europe.

I lived in Sri Lanka for several years, and was always treated kindly by the Muslims I met. Sri Lanka is a beautiful place, but I agree there's always something special about the place you are born and raised in. The western United States with its open spaces, its mountains and forests will always have an appeal for me.

SST,

You say you find Islam very interesting - have you studied Sikhism, Hinduism, or Bhuddism? You'll find them just as - if not more - intersting.

I've studied Hinduism and Buddhism. Like I've said before, I find many religions interesting, even though I am an atheist. I've often thought about how great many of the ideas are to better our lives, especially being stutterers, finding peace with ourselves because of it. I don't want to start a religious discussion, this is just my experience.

Why do people ant to do that? And why aren't they doing it to the followers on Sikhism, Hinduism, Bhuddism, Zoroastrianism etc etc?

Why do people want to demonize Muslims? Probably the same way people demonized African Americans many years ago. People are scared of the unknown, and don't like people who are different from them. There is a lot of intolerance in this world, not just in the U.S. It's everywhere.

It's very easy to critise the USA - in fact, I heard many years ago that anit-Americanism is an acceptable form of racisim these days. I'm not from the USA, but I find your comments ("Especially in the U.S.") very naive. Try going to a Muslim country and tell them you're an atheist and see how much acceptance you get.

Well, seeing as how I'm an American, I think I've earned the right to criticize my country. It's called freedom of speech. Racism is a bias against a race of people. A country isn't a person. The citizens of a country are obligated to speak out when injustice is happening. Do we want a repeat of Nazi Germany? Things like that shouldn't be allowed to happen again. There are a hell of a lot of racists in my country. People think they can use the excuse of being in a "war" as cover for their hatred.

I don't appreciate being called "naive". I would say you are the one with the naive opinion. ;) So if I go to a Muslim country I would automatically be in danger? You're generalizing entire countries out of fear. This leads me back to my original comment that the extremists in all religions give the good a bad name. Like the old song goes, people are people.

yeah i find all religions fascinating, and i am actually glad that my school made religion compulsory cause i have learnt soo much :) and i understand them much better as well.

i'm so gonna start a new super religion with a mix of christianity, judaism, and islam :p did you know that apparently the qu'ran mentions jesus more than they do muhammad? and its so cool because these three faiths are so intertwined and all this fighting and racism and crap between them is so ridiculous. they should just become one happy family, cause afterall they all worship the same 'god' just in different ways. :D

I might be considered a Deist, although Deists often disagree about fundamental questions like whether an afterlife exists. But generally, I'd say I have deistic views, much like many of our founding fathers!

sweet......... In my opinion the more freethinkers in the world the better. :D ......... I like how you said " much like many of our founding fathers "...... its interesting to me how many Christians try to cl that this country was founded on Christian principles..... when in fact it wasn't. The USA is a country founded on classical deistic principals not Christian principles.

Violet...actually we don't worship the same God. To Christians, without believing in Jesus as God the Son you do not have God the Father. :) Just informing you...nothing more.

I would never allign with another religion....I won't be joining your movement, lol :)

The only way to know God is gnosis.
I don't even think any two persons believe in the same god, as each has their own notion of God, shaped by their personal experience, insight, etc.

I believe there is one great Primordial Consciousness from which everything originates, and all spirits (plants, animals, deities, forces of nature, ...) are its different points of view, into which it split itself in order to experience. God, to me, is the interface between my own consciousness and the reality it defines.

If you're compelled to call it something, call it unitarian sophistic animism :)

"God" is subjective as it's not part of the consensus (physical) reality.
Their gods may be based on the same archetype (e.g. what you call God of the Bible) but they're different under the surface, on the more personal levels that words fail to describe.
