Hello everyone, I'm a 34 year old grown african american man. I live in South Florida, I've lived a ruff life, mostly depressed and stressed about my shortcomings.
To start off, I have a speech impediment, stuttering but for me it's very noticeable and I think it's the biggest factor in me being in a situation that's not improving.
To start, the job situation is hell, because of my speech, I have to stay away from customer service type of jobs, phone or any jobs that require heavy speaking... This causes alot of stress since I have to take mostly lower end jobs which doesn't pay well. (10 to 12 per hour)
I don't have a huge degree but I have a 2 year degree, I should be making at least $20 per hour but unfortunately I've never made past 14 per hour. I think the biggest thing I have to defeat is the stuttering, that's the key.
We stutters live rough lifes, at times we're scared and afraid to let it all hang out due to a negative reaction from others. It's tough for us.... very tough for us.
I want to learn all I can about stuttering and the most common ways to battle it... whatever it takes I will do.
Also I want to know about your stories and how stuttering has changed your life, do you work? if you do work are you making a decent living?
I live at home and I've been here for a long time... my speech is the number 1 reason that I'm still here.
I want to get things together and I think this is the place that will help me the most (stuttering).
Thanks again.
