A few months ago I was talking to an old lady in my grandmother's house while she was back at the kitchen doing something. She was one of those people you just don't seem to have to stutter towards (with extreme effort, as usual). Suddenly she stands up and says "I'm going to the kitchen with your grandma for a minute, I have diabetes and have to snack on something. This is the WORST CONDITION IN THE WORLD." I'm sure in her simple little mind it is.
But is it? No. There are a lot of people that are worse off than just diabetics... and a lot of people that are worse off than stutterers too. Even worse than stuttering diabetics! Not that that should make us happy, but should place us in "our place". I cannot only name physical disabilities or illnesses that I would not prefer over stuttering, but also countless possible hardships growing up I am glad I haven't experienced.
Whenever the thought that you'd give anything not to be a stutterer gets into your mind, just think of all of the things you'd rather NOT give. I'm not talking about "gratitude" to a higher being or anything like that... just not undermining our innate potential to be more than stutterers.
PS: Having said this... Later today I'll probably think to myself I'd give anything to get rid of it.
