Can anyone please tell me how a seminar is different from any other college class? I have the idea that the students do most of the talking instead of the professor but that's all I really know.
I was just wondering because I've already signed up for my classes next semester and one of them is a Religious Studies seminar. I don't have to take it, I can use it as one of my upper-level electives. I just wanna see if I can be more comfortable with my stuttering if I enroll in this course and complete it.

yes, that's basically what it is. In Canada/US we don't have many pure seminar classes like in the UK and AU, but usually just a few mandatory sessions for some classes worth like 10-15% of your final grade.

Usually seminars have a small group of people who take turns discussing certain topics with the professor acting as the moderator in a sort of round-table environment, but I'm not familiar with them at all so you should probably ask a friend or your school to see the class format. I think your decision to take this class should be based on how comfortable you are with public speaking. It may improve your fluency and make you more confident or do the exact opposite! Also, is Religious Studies interesting to you? Do you think you could debate with other people and get your points across? Realistically, this could be a great opportunity to improve your speech but with an asshole prof it could also be disastrous :( -- i'd say at the very least do your research even if you have a mild stutter and are scared of public speaking!

ohhh ooops, I didn't see you lived in Louisiana.... i wrote my reply thinking you were a brit for some reason :) In that case, pure seminar classes in NA are usually for 3rd-4th yr students who already know a certain amount on the subject and are fairly comfortable with the material whereas in UK/AU there are seminar courses throughout your entire University career... if that helps make your decision easier, lol goodluck
