I am the mother of a 15 year old boy who stutters moderately. I am 45years old and have been separated fro my son's dad for about 14years now. When he goes to his dad's place he can hold back the stutering but then comes home and is twice as bad.

He's a great kid with a future in engineering but is now doubting himself since he has been stuttering (for about the last 6 months).

He stuttered when he was about 7 years old but it just went away.

I saw a medical show about stuttering and it showed a girl who had a reading with her and it stopped her stutering so they invented Speech Easy. It a device that goes into the ear and fools the brain that it can hear your voice and you just stop stuttering.

Does anyone know anything about the Speech Easy.
Where to get and it how much it is.

My direct email addy is duchess.77@hotmail.com

Thanks and good luck to all you stutters. My heart goes out to you all. xoxox

Welcome to the stuttering forum.

I don't know too much about the Speech Easy but from what I have read it seems to work for some stutterers but not for others. I have heard that it is also only good for those that stutter with repetitions and is not much use for blocks. On top of this I have also read that a person can become sort of immune to the effects of it after a time but this could maybe be sorted out by having it upgraded or something at regular intervals. It is quite pricey to as I think it costs several thousand.

Thank you for your reply.
I am only new to this stuttering lingo.
Can you (or someone) tell me what "blocks" and "repititions" are?

Cheers

hello :)
when your son goes "st-st-stutter" thats a repetition
and when he can't get the word out and appears to be 'stuck' he's blocking

if you watch him closely you can tell when he is blocking cause his face will be like paused on the sound he is trying to say.. like when you pause a movie when a person is speaking they have a wierd expression. well at least thats how it is for me when i block.. i tend to block on B (which is quite obvious because the B sound is created using your lips) and also N and D (which people dont even notice because the sound is created with your tongue pressing the roof of your mouth so you cant visibly see it unless you were a stutterer yourself and knew they were blocking lol)

I'm 17 and my parents are divorced also. I hardly see my father and he has never acknoledged my stutter and my mum used to be like that also, which was mostly because it was a highly sensitive issue to me -and still is- but ever since it has become a more open topic i feel less awkward about stuttering in front of her.
Lots of factors make my stutter worse including things like how the other person speaks and responds to what i say.. perhaps he stutters more cause there is something that you do unconsciously which triggers off his stutter more?

Hi Violet
Thank you so much for shedding some light on those terms.
I didn't know there was different ways to stutter but now that I know the difference I now know that Paul (my son) does both forms.
He and I talk about it alot and he has always told me all his fears and feelings. Thankfully he is always open. I never bring it up unless he starts the conversation and I never say anything about it. But in front of the concellor he said he wanted me tell him to "breath" when he starts to stutter, but now has changed his mind and has gone mad at me for doing that so I stopped. It is school holidays now and he is not so worried but when school starts I fear he will get worse again. the Doctor put him on an anti anxiety drug and that has helped a little but all he wants to do is sleep all the time.
I am hoping to find someone thru this site that knows of a mild drug that could help settle it with out the horrible side effects that these drugs can have.
Thanks again :)
