Hey peoples.
I've been stuttering for the past 12 years or so - however my case is quite unusual so I've been told - I only started stuttering at the age of 11-12, and before that I used to be quite talkative and didn't have a fear in the world when it came to speaking.
I'm not quite sure when it exactly started, or how I started stuttering, my earliest memory of it was when I was in grade 9, in English class, the teacher would choose students to read a paragraph or two from a book - the only thing I remember was thinking to myself 'Please don't choose me' and surely enough, he ended up choosing me. Now my stuttering wasn't too bad then, I could read the paragraph with barely any blocks or stutters - however I felt very anxious while reading it and after reading it this huge feeling of relief poured over me. From then on, I knew I had some problems with my speech.
The years when by, I tried ignoring it and thinking it'll pass on it's own - my parents didn't take me seriously when I told them about it (typical of my parents). I still used to be talkative (well tried to be) - still made friends wherever I went, I would say I had a mild stutter at this stage. However, as the years went by, I noticed that my speech became worse - I became much more anxious and started feeling depressed about not being able to get my point across to people without looking like a retard in the process. The phone calls started declining, the social events dropped, I started becoming a hermit in other words.
Now I'm at a point where I feel so anxious about my speech, that I've had a couple of anxiety attacks over the past two years - I've been prescribed some medication for that and it seems to help, most speaking situations I feel normal, however, each time I go to open my mouth I know I'm going to stutter - so it's made me avoid a lot of situations.
My stuttering is more of a block - when I'm speaking with people I have no free flow of thought, everything just gets jumbled up and I'm stuck for words (literally). I'm sure you're all familiar with some of the popular traits stutters possess, for example - I'm unable to say my name when someone asks, most of the time I'm unable to order the meal I WANT to eat, so I end up ordering something that's easier to say, becoming pissed off when you say something fluently only not to be heard by the listener!
Oh and I'm an avid weed smoker too :o
Argh, anyway, there's a brief history behind my stuttering.

Serious.. where abouts?
I'm not too sure what brought it on? Regarding the hit to the head question, only thing I could think of is getting into a fight in grade 7, and getting my punk ass whooped :o
But yeah, not sure if it was from that?

Yes, 70% of the time it gets real bad, to a point where I won't speak at all, the words just come out as retarded sounds lol.
However, I rarely smoke around others - I smoke by myself, and it's usually at night 2-3 hours before I go to bed.

yeah I have, I stoped smoking "avidly" haha. I dont see anything wrong with it once in a while, Iv just noticed being in a different perspective like that makes me more self conscious I guess.

I dont see anything wrong with it once in a while,
That's the spirit.
I noticed the same things as you did.
I don't smoke now but when I did I would make sure I could be alone in the woods to just kick back and appreciate nature.

The best times smoking I ever have is sitting in my back yard and watching the sky at night, or in the daytime and staring at the trees, birds, and squirls ect. hahah. I know most people will probibly think thats wierd but I think its wierd how people cant see the beauty in just sitting and watching nature, its amazing if you just look haha. One time I was smoking in my back yard and a huge black bird swooped down and perched near me, I was so scared it had to be at least 2 1/2 feet tall perched.

Now THAT tells you a lot about you!
A raven!
Yo' special boy!

LOL what does that say about me? Its size startled me, Iv never imagined Id ever see a bird that big haha so I stood up and held the chair I was sitting in to defend myself in case it swooped at me hahah. It just stared at me for a little bit and flew off.

Ah I would love to talk about this with you but the three spiritually-challenged wankers would start in on me again accusing me of being a guru :)
Your totem is a raven, as mine is a crow.
Google for "animal totems" and go read about yourself.
Read about crows too :)
Let me know what you found out.

I have to admit what It said is really appealing to me and I could find connections, but it just seems like crazy psuedo-science that Carl Sagan warned me about :o

So take what you want and leave the rest.
I discovered I was a crow completely by accident, but it sums me up perfectly.
There are a lot worse things you could be than a raven.
Anyway: it's not science :)
It's something else entirely.
What you may think about it doesn't change it in the least.

It just seems to me like all the other fake things we use to identify ourselves. Astrology for example, its based on constellations, but are the constellations really there in nature? its all human imagination. I think each individual should see that they cant really be defined in such categories, I think lifes much more complex then that.

Who said anything about using what you know to identify yourself?
And the sad three I referred to, call everything fake, simply because they can not see it for what it is. They already know everything about everything.
You are you. Your job is to find out what "you" is.
There is nothing fake about any quest for knowledge :)
[QUOTE=Asif;29950]

Actually, life is very much more simple than that.
But don't take my word for it.
You don't see ravens leading complicated lives or worrying about what it all means.

Life is simple at the same time because everything is made out of the same thing, but that one energy takes complex forms. It depends on how you look at it, like one of those optical illusion paintings. My point is I dont think the human impulse to categorize everything, including people, is that intellegent or healthy all the time.

Well in this case people are Identifying themselves with an animal. Im not saying its fake because I cannot see it, im saying I have no reason to belive that its true. I think being true to the quest for knowledge is leaning on the path that can be proven so far, science. Theres no question there are forces and connections humans have not discovered, but I think a healthy skeptism is needed. I dont have faith in faith :)
