I think he got banned for pushing the Schwartz Method on the forum ,he has a website making all kinds if cls about being rich and other things ,the schwartz method is basically a renamed breathing tech that is hard to maintain longterm and hard to use in normal conversation ,the basics are you start with a inhale then exhale stop after the first word ,after \ practicing for 1 million hrs it should become automatic then you must practice every day for the rest of your life, beware of "stuttering cures" ther is no cure ,stuttering is for life ther are only some degrees of control

Sounds impressive.. What did he do?? And what type of stutter did he have previously?? I'm very interested :D

I have recently begun to try and purposly say words which i can't say.. I even litereally just hung up the phone from talking to one of those people who call you trying to sell products.. i talked to him for ten minutes untill he started asking for my name and pincode and then spoke for another ten minutes trying to convince him that i didnt want the product. :p haha poor guy, he was pulling the whole guilt trip because i wasted 20 minutes of his life. hahaha

I would say from talking with him he probably had a stutter that resembles mine...... ( more of a situational kind of stutter )...........Im always a mild stutterer...... but if I constantly change my intonation and change my words around I can usually hide it pretty well ( Although I usually end up sounding really goofy so I just don't talk much------- but usually a few times a day depending on the situations I'll have really severe blocks that I just can't hide, or I just don't want to......like if someone ask(s) me what my name is and I feel a block...... no gettin around it..................... What he did was train himself to relieve vocal fold tension while he speaks ( He believes that vocal fold tension is always present in stutterers and if you can train yourself to relax that tension then the stutter will dissipate....... His actual approach is to condition ( speak in a slightly slow, relaxed, and gentle way) the first word of every phrase that you speak...... With alot of focus and practice he believes that people can consistently learn to say relax your vocal fold tension and say this first word fluently ( to seperate this first word from the rest of the phrase you need to make a short but definate pause in between the word and phrase)-(this allows you to focus fully on that word and takes away the initial stress of having to speak many words in succession)......from there you transfer that same relaxed way of speaking to the rest of the phrase........... From what I understand the main idea behind this strategy is to actually focus on feeling your vocal cords/laryngeal muscles relax while you speak --to keep this conscious awareness is what seems to be the ingredient that glues the strategy together.......................................... ................. Though this strategy is similar to the swartz method (which is where this technique/idea evolved from ) it isn't exactly like it........ there isn't any breathing techniques associated.....From what I understand Shwartz is really into the whole breathing strategy.------------ Im going to try and read using this strategy for 40 minuted every morning and night/ and try to employ it in everyday speech for a month and see what happens.

lol...... telemarketers can be a great way to practice your speaking strategies.....every now and then one of them calls me on just the right day( Im on a new speech strategy kick)........and I talk their ear off.......and then I don't buy anything lol......... yo to purposefully speak can be really hard, but it deffinately has its benefits..... Even inspite of stuttering.......it can feel so good to take the time to say exactly what you want to speak not just what you can speak:) Like at restaurants sometimes I don't order what I really want cause maybe the waitress is cute and I don't want to embarrass myself......but everynow and then I'll choose to just struggle through it.....and usually Im pretty glad I did.

Yeah my stutter is situational as well, and when i'm not sick or anything and just in normal conversation i can generally hide it pretty much almost completely by substituting words and reordering the syntax of sentences to like 'prepare' me for the word i get stuck on. And i only really get caught out when its a simple question like "what subjects do you do?" or "what is your name" and general things it is expected for me to answer without hesitation and that i can't change the words for..... but then when i’m called upon to talk in front of a whole group of people i don’t know that’s a whole other story....
I also find i stutter more when with certain types of people.... i'm not sure exactly what it is, its like the tone of voice they use, and how comfortable i am with them.. and it isnt even if i have known them for eternity.. i can meet people and instantly feel comfortable with them and not stutter, or the opposite can happen in which case i dont talk haha... And also, to limit the situations that i stutter, or even just in general where i don’t even speak, there is always a person who i feel safe with in every single environment i'm ever in.. and like this person/s could be a complete stranger.. i just feel calmer being in their presence. Lol that sounds like I'm such a leech. bahhaha I dunno I’m just unstable like that.. hahahaha

I also hardly stutter when i have large quantities of sugar.. like energy drinks :D because i talk faster and am just plain crazy and only block/stutter occasionally in which case it doesn’t even look like I’m stuttering it just looks like I'm off my face so no one is none the wiser ;) hahaha last night i went to Christmas carols with a whole group of friends (yeah i know how boring does that sound) but i came cause my friends like all but dragged me there and it turned out to be so ing awesome cause the whole time any carol we knew .. like "gloria" came on we would all be insanely singing so loud that people near us spent the whole time staring at us going wtf???? and in some cases actually moved... bahahhahaa.. but yeah the whole purpose of this story was that earlier in the day i had been stuttering far worse than usual, so i was kinda worried about that.... and when i got to this carols place i had two V's (do you have them in America? I am like sooo addicted to them haha) and anyway one of my friends brought along her stepbrother who's like a year older and i spent like more than half the night talking to him/in the same conversation as him and i only visibly stuttered once. and i doubt he has actually worked out that i stutter. haha I’m so proud :D
I’ve been thinking... is it weird that i stutter less the more i talk? Like not even ratio wise... but if i am talking like crazy and never shut up the stutters are like barely noticeable and much less frequent... where as if I’m not really talking even the simplest words catch me..

haha yeah i do that.. I either order what is easier to say, or i point to the menu while vaguly talking about what i want without attempting to say the word i can't say, or i get someone else to order, or if i'm lucky and the person in front of me has ordered what i want, i'm just like "yeah i'll have what s/he's having".

"Do we have v's here in the states" We might......Ive never heard of that kind of energy drink before though---- Do you'll have red bull over there in the land down under?................... wow its weird... Ive had some really fluent episodes after buzzing off of a shitload of caffeine and sugar as well...... I remember when my brother got married a few years back I was asked to stand at the door and greet the guest as they walked in ( I was reluctant but eventually agreed ) well anyways that same day I had consumed alot of caffeinated drinks and even though I was nervous ( which embarrassingly was apparent to everyone there) I hardly stuttered..... I just talked extremely fast. Maybe were on to something here lol....... From what I understand caffeine raises the basal muscular tension level of our body, yet in that instance it didn't seem to effect my fluency. Although if I would of calmed down and talked in a more eloquent way I probably would of stuttered. So actually it could be just a temporary relief in stuttering do to speaking in an unusual way( speaking quicker than normal), just like employing a foreign accent usually helps with fluency.

that's true there is no cure
but we cant just give up and watch life pass by just like this
we can atleast try getting a little help from someone and then with a lot of hard work control our stutter

I have never told anyone to give up trying to improve ther speech ,its just there are people out there who want to use us to make money for themselves ,I have been to many slps and stuttering cures you give them your money then you improve ,then you relapse then you loose your money, then they tell you that you did not try hard enough so its your fault you stutter

Sounds interesting. But I heard of so many so-called stutter healing prophets that I can't make a difference anymore. I do trust Malcolm Fraser, though.

Malcolm Fraser uses a technique that was taught by his mother where you think about each word in your mind before you say it ,again it takes alot of practice and self control to use it in conversation

yeah I understand that
I actually took speech therapy for 2 years when I was eight years old
and the speech therapist didint even teach me any techniques she is like I want to find out where u stutter and how u stutter
so I was getting sick of that and gave it up but they didn't charge me anything for it

u should only take part in those speech therapy programs in which other stutters have become fluent for example, Istar and the mcguire programme
Andrew Greensteins technique is also something many stutters should try because he was also one of them and is fluent now and i believe the technique has also helped other sutters

I am 17 years old and I will hopefully be attending university soon
so I really want to take part in the Istar program or try anything that will help me improve my speech

Out of all the things Iv tried to help my stutter, this sort of technique is the only one that has really worked when I can achieve complete relaxation of my vocal chords. Its not easy, it does take practice, tension has been conditioned to our speaking. I bet a little tension in the vocal chords is present in fluent people too. Relaxed conscious awarness to my speaking has helped me when Iv tried, but I never had the concentration to practice and keep it in mind. I think I will join you in this. :)

I agree we should take part in programs with a proven track record. Istar and the McGuire Program have been around for a while and both are highly respected. Andrew Greenstien is just a random guy on the internet who is making cls which may or may not be true. If you look over his website he makes a lot of very impressive cls about a lot of different things. Use your own judgement on whether these cls are legitimate or not.

I did look into the McGuire Program but I was very turned off by the lack of information they will give you ,It seemed like a secret cult ,they want you to come and spend a weekend in a hotel room with a stranger ,must go alone, alot of people relapse too

I have done the McGuire Program. It is a good program, but not a panacea. Yes, many people do relapse, but this is true of any speech therapy. McGuire is the only program that I have done that addresses relapse. Any information you want on the program, I will be happy to give you.
