View Full Version : Why do we stutter? A review of some recently posted theories.

According to some recent posts, we stutter because:

1. We're liars.
2. We have anger issues.
3. Our mothers didn't love us enough.
4. We don't believe in God.

I'm not sure if all of them have to be true, or just one.

What do you all thing? Is this why we stutter?

1. If this was true, everyone in the present age would stutter.

2. Basically the same concept as number one.

3. According to The Stuttering Foundation: "Is stuttering caused by emotional or psychological problems? Children and adults who stutter are no more likely to have psychological or emotional problems than children and adults who do not. There is no reason to believe that emotional trauma causes stuttering."

4. Same concept of numbers one and two.

No one really knows the cause(s) of stuttering. But it's definitely not one of the four listed. (And yes, JDRow, I know these are not neccessarily your opinions. So I'm not attacking you. :) )

Nobody knows why people stutter. What I know is that there are stutterers, males and females of all ages, all around the world. In North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
What I also know is that stuttering has something to do with extraordinary talent. For example I make music. Another member in here called Violet is a painter. There are maybe lots more artists in this forum.

Just look at all these famous stutterers:
-Moses
-Demosthenes
-Emperor Claudius
-Isaac Newton
-Charles Darwin
-Winston Churchill
-Marilyn Monroe
-Carly Simon
-John Updike
-Bruce Willis
-James Earl Jones
etc. etc.

Yes, I do think stuttering comes along with some talent that fluent speakers don't have. Maybe it's a gift.

*raises hand* I'm a fiction writer! LOL (Most non-fiction = hate. DX)

And I'm attempting to learn how to play the electric guitar so I can make music.

It is...very interesting how there are a lot of artistically talented stutterers there have been/are, Count.

*goes off to eat supper*

Oh, Asif, you've aikido-ed me yet again. I had a typo!

Reason #5 that people stutter: They make typos.

When are you leaving? You keep promising us you're going, and yet here you still are.

He will never leave, and everyone is still giving him the attention he craves. At least one of his stupid threads got locked. :)

Drugs are awesome. :) But if someone has mental deficiencies, like Asif/Hans, then they will bring the worst out of that person. Side affects are known to include: bigotry, self-importance, writing long rambling posts, membership to a known fascist organization, and an obsession with crows. ;)

There is a little triangular caution sign on the upper right hand side of each post(we must be signed in to see it). If we click this we can report any offensive post. I did this last night and apparently that thread has since been locked. If Asif continues with his offensive ramblings I would suggest we all use this to report him.

I think we have found an Achilles's heel, hehe.

My point is proved: of course there is a moderator. There is always a moderator.
The deleted thread had to be removed: it was absurd and it was awful.
But the moderator saw what I was doing and why.
And the fact I am still here - at least for now - also proves he is not as draconian as any one of you would be in his shoes.

You choose to take it literally, but it was a parable.
You know what a parable is?
You jump out of an aircraft and pull a string attached to it,
leaving you about eight seconds to ponder the meaning of life before you smash into the ground at around 120m.p.h.
That's why dictionaries exist.
That's why communication is important.
That's why there are teachers.
That's why not every human born has to acquire every single piece of knowledge ever discovered by every member of the human race that ever existed.
That is why I do what I do.

I understood what the parable ment, its just as ridiculous as the parable itself.

Ah. Well that's OK then.
