I know some people have commented on this but I would aprreciate any other advice on how you guys deal with saying your name to a group of people.
How do you mentally prepare to avoid stuttering.

If it's a group of people and it comes up randomly and I have to say my name instantly, then I'm usually not that bad because I have no time to think about it and just go for it the best I can.
If it's like a classroom setting and the teacher yells out that we're doing introductions, then I get really nervous and start sweating like crazy. Sometimes I wish I would just go first and get it over with instead of having to sit there with a lot of fear and anxiety. What I try to do is not think about what I'm going say. Just relaxing, patiently waiting for my turn to come, and listening to everyone else. Then when its my turn, I just improvise it instead of having the whole thing prepared. I sometimes use this for class speeches and presentations too. When trying to remember what to say, I think I tend to stutter more.

I dont stammer on my name. But what I do do, is delay myself for a while, so I can somewhat say my name quick ... So when everyone is like My name is ..... Quickly, to stop myself from stammerin, I pause, and then I go ' My name is .....' pause again, then say 'Keisha' .. I also find that, Blocking everyone out, and not concentrating of the ppl around me, has kind of helped me as well.

Saying something before my first name, usually "I'm," helps me. But if someone directly asks me my last name, it's always hard because I cant do this. Usually the only people who ask last name are companies of some sort, so I orally spell it which is awkward but easier.

Well I chickened out and pretended like I had to go to the bathroom right at the point introductions were about to start.
I'm just too afraid of suffering the humiliation.

worse, I'm all Like LISTEN CAREFULLYWhen people ask me to spell my name sometimes I don't stutter and everything goes fine, but other times I struggle really hard just to get out one letter and spelling my whole name becomes almost impossible. Then people tell me to just write it down which I really hate but don't say anything to them. Those moments make me so embarrassed.

Sooooo annoyin lolYes, I hate it when that happens. I feel like slapping those people. :)
I didn't mention this in my first post, in this thread,....so as for actually just saying my name, I go "Hi, My name is (insert first name here)." Saying those few words before my name helps but the problem is that you can't always do that. What if you're already speaking to the person, then it'd kinda be awkward to say "hi" and stuff like that. In those cases, you just gotta say your name without any other words before it.

I just have to say my name, the school I work for and my specific job.
I would rather give a 2 hr speech on the life of Shakespeare than go through these few seconds of terror.
I don't know what's wrong with me.

We all got the same problem. Sometimes I thought about changing my name to something easier to say.

I'm about the same with Mainguy. At our last workshop/meeting, we all went around the table and when it came to my turn, I stood up and said 'hi my name is Eugene'. I have change my name I tell people to call me Gene, because it is easier to say. Checking into hotels, I do the bond thing, say my last name first, then my first name. "Hi Checking in, Burnstick, Eugene Burnstik".

Saying my name has always been very hard, and it still causes me problems today, even though I am sixty years old and retired and I would say that I am 95% fluent now.
I would like to go to evening classes ,but I couldn`t face the all lets introduce ourselves routine. in case I opened my mouth and nothing came out.
Sorry I can`t help with some helpful tip. However you have helped me because now I know I am not alone with this fear.
