Has anyone been approved for a SpeechEasy device through vacational rehab? If so, how long did it take and was the steps easy to go through to apply for one?

Thanks :)

I know in Australia may be possible. You could possibly get some form of a tax break also depending on your tax laws

In some states Vocational Rehab will pay for the device and some will not. They turned down my application because I was retired. I had to pay for it out of pocket. It was a financial hit but the best investment I ever made. I keep writing to my legislators trying to get stuttering declared a handicap. May we'll get something out of the recently elected house and senate. Let's all send letters and emails, let them know we vote.

How much are they?

I would be weary of such an investment.

How much are they?It was a total of 5000 including the provider fees. I was a severe stutterer and became fluent with it. But it doesn't work for everyone, The provider has a dummy model to try and there is a 90 day moneyback guarantee, so there is no risk. A lot of the people on this forum don't believe me when I said i became fluent. After 62 years as a stutterer I am enjoying fluency, I love going to driveups , I enjoy not being laughed at.

Good for you :) $5000 is nothing for the results you've had. I wonder if it would work for me. The other devices and apps I've tried didn't do anything.

Wow, good for you! When it comes to health and happiness, I try not to make money an issue. I'll look into this device!

Maybe I can take it out for a "test drive".

I know why it doesn't work for everyone or have a pretty good theory as to why. It should be mentioned why it does not work for everyone when saying it doesn't work.

Speecheasy does not work with total silent blocks, or when you can't make a sound while stuttering.

If you don't have the kind of stuttering SE is supposed to help, it won't work for you.

If you have lot's of silent blocks, or silent stoppages, the SE will not work.

In that case when the SE does not work, don't abandon hope....find a different device which will work with all types of stutterings.

I think it should also be said as to why the SE won't work.

It's sad to know something does not work, but it's more sad to just know that it didn't work without even knowing why.

After trying out all of the devices/medicines/drugs and finding out that all of them don't help you since you stutter very severely, what then???

When answering the above question keep in mind that time is running out very quickly as you get older and you can't afford to wait any longer for scientists to find a cure for stuttering or invent some other new device/medicine/drug that you can try out.

You keep forging forward. Making friends, increasing self knowledge and continue being a happy and productive citizen of the world. Perhaps you accept your stutter and take ownership of it? Perhaps you will become so hardened to it that is does not matter any more? You cannot hold out for devices/medicines/drugs to emerge to have a happy & productive life. Live your life to the fullest and if something comes along then it does, but as far as I can tell there is nothing on the immediate horizon. The sum of your whole life cannot be just your stutter.

I prefer the evidence based approach. Has the treatment?

* Proven to produce fluent speech in everyday situations
* Proven to produce long-term fluent speech after treatment
* Proven to work by scientific studies
* Published in respected scientific journals

Myself and one other person that I personally know has became fluent, longterm with this device. I've used to for eight years. I personally know two professors who have used in classroom instruction. No I can't put their names on the internet.. Google will take you to Janus development co. for any further information. You can believe me or not, I don't care. I know one thing, it's fun to go to a drive up after avoiding them for 62 years.
