I would love to hear the experiences of anyone here who has acted on stage or in front of the camera and their speech experiences. I have worked a lot directing and producing shorts, and have also acted. I personally do not stutter in front of the camera. I have only once when a person off camera remarked that I have not stuttered for a long time. My brain must have recognised this lol and it was a challenge to get out the next line for a few minutes

When I was in my second year of university I took a medieval civilization course as an elective. I later found out that the other half of the course was to put on a play for about 150 people.

The play the Professor chose was Canterbury's Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer. There wasn't enough people to play all the parts so people like me and others had 2 or 3 parts. The night before the performance I couldn't sleep a wink, but I actually performed well because my Professor gave me 89%. I think the trick was I was acting as someone else which as a result I hardly stuttered!

Hmm yes I out it down to staying in the character of a non-stutterer. When I try to fake a stutter (acting) it sounds all wrong lol

i dont have any personal experience, but I saw a bio on samuel jackon, and he was a BIG self procled stutter. He said acting and getting on stage cured him when he was a kid

I have heard the same, including Bruce Willis and a few of others. I am sorry but they do not inspire me. They could if they PROVED it. I Don't just walk the walk - TALK THE TALK role models! I wanna see footage of you as a kid stuttering.

I remember acting in school :) Was in Year 6 (10 -11 years old class) and i had a part as the three kings and i was pretty freaking out about the day (not like the way i freak out nowadays) but i didn't stutter i said everyline prefectly and i was so so so so amazed at myself. I think it helped a vbiit that the part i was playing was also with 2 of my best best friends (the 3 kings)

i reckon video camcorders wernt around when Mr. Willis was a kid. besides...would you want to tape yoself stuttering like shit lest in the future one was to be born who would dispute the fact that you ever did (stutter)?
not likely.

Well all I am saying is that these so called stuttering role models should put up or shut up. I want proof not stories. Then I would be inspired. As said "Don't just walk the walk - TALK THE TALK role models!"
