Hey, my name is Emily and I'm 17 years old. I'm so glad I found this site-I've only met one other person in my life who stutters and it's such a great feeling to relate to others' struggles. I actually have a very mild stutter and I'm pretty sure just a couple people outside my own family know that I stutter. It's usually really easy for me to talk in conversation. Reading out loud and making presentations is the hardest thing for me and I usually have a hard time talking on the phone (mostly to people I don't know). Introducing myself and saying certain words is sometimes difficult, too. Even though my stutter is mild, it creates an incredible amount of anxiety for me. I can't wait to talk to all of you about life as a stutterer.

Being anxious is what kills us, just the thought of knowing that you are going to stutter or struggle on words takes a toll emotionally every time. I think you are still young enough so that stuttering will not become all consuming.

Just try and forget about it and get on with your life, I wish somebody had told me that when i was younger.

until i came to this forum i had only met 3 others who stutter... 2 of those where in speech classes when i was younger :P

Welcome to this forum. I personally always had grouptherapy since I was a child with other stutters. It helped cause it made me feel I was not alone with this problem. Hope this forum does the same thing for you.

Welcome. It is pretty awsome to talk to people who actually understand how hard it is lol. Really knowing Im not alone didnt come intill I found this forum, before that I almost felt ashamed of it. This forum has really changed my attitude alot Im greatful for everyone here :D
