hi. my name's dan and i've been stuttering for as long as i can remember. i'm 23 now and grew up in texas, though i've been traveling for the last 5 months around southeast asia. traveling's been a really good experience because it's broken me out of my bubble and forced me to realize the responsibilities that the world requires...namely, communicating. I still stutter like a champion, but it's bothering me less and less. i've never really accepted it actually, though it's been plainly (painfully) obvious. i've always been too stubborn to admit to myself that i was so different in this way from my peers, even though i'm only compounding the effects by analyzing the discomfort of my audience every time i'm trying to squeeze out a few words. in reality i am very lucky...i've had a great upbringing, wonderful family and friends, and have been blessed with many other talents. my dad has even said that he's almost glad i stutter; not for the pain and embarrassment he's seen it cause in me, but because he says i'd probably be an arrogant jackass if i could say whatever cropped up into my head. life has a funny way of balancing things.
at any rate, sorry to go on, but i have a lot to say on the matter and am happy to talk to anyone who wants to hear it and am more than happy to listen to anyone who needs to vent. i'm glad to finally be able to talk to all y'all (it's been a month since i tried joining), and i look forward to hearin from ya!
