Ok I do this all the time. I try to detect the words I will probably stutter with and change it with an "easier" word. Some say it is not the right thing to do but it avoids pain, humiliation and frustration. I wrote an article SCANMAN II HERE (http://stutterstories.blogspot.com/2009/01/scanman-ii-journey-continues.html) and would like your input.
Thank you and if you can Visit my stuttering blog (http://stutterstories.blogspot.com)(http://stutterstories.blogspot.com) (http://stutterstories.blogspot.com)

I do usually either scan ahead or plan what I'm going to say based on how easily I can say it. I don't understand why some people think that's such a bad thing. If the point is to be able to communicate what you want to communicate, then I don't see any problem with choosing words that I'll have an easier time saying, when they communicate the same thing. A lot of times there are many different ways we could express the same idea, and I don't know what's wrong with choosing a way that is going to be easiest to say.
I do this all the time. If I have to say a word that begins with "m" than I will definitely try to find a work around.

I do it in front of the class sometimes. I teach multimedia and have a hard time saying it sometimes. I continue to fight :)
