Well ive been seeing that, stuttering is kinda of a cycle for me, "

For example: When someone asks me a question, get nervous because i think what would he think when i stutter? And then that nervousness makes me stutter. When i feel completely relaxed with no problems i tend to speak fluent. Can this be a problem of self esteem? Iam not shy or anything.

haha also anotherthing, right now iam a sophmore at high school, and when theres parties i always hope theres not list because i get really nervous to say my name idk why.

Hi Nico,

I have been thinking about this, about myself, for quite some time. With stuttering, it seems to be a "which came first the chicken or the egg". I think if we knew which came first, it would make solving this whole stuttering thing easier.

But we do know that our mind plays a BIG roll, whether its physiological or psychological, is still debatable.

I know that I tend to be socially anxious and a perfectionist but I haven't figured out if it is because I'm afraid of stuttering or if I'm stuttering because I'm afraid.

I do notice that if I feel anxious about saying a word or phrase, that's when my body goes into lockdown, and I can't get much out, as opposed to when I'm confident, I don't block as much...

re: self esteem- only you can answer that question. Self esteem is so much more than whether you are happy with yourself outside of your speech impediment.

As stutterers, it's hard sometimes to not feel consumed and defined by our speech. This often impacts our self esteem. Many of us come to grips with the fact that this is only one aspect of ourselves.

99% of stutterers have problems with saying their name.

Hehe I can totally relatate do that man... Thats tricky. When I have fluent periods I sometimes think "Now im gonna show to some friends that I can tell a long interetsting story without stuttering". And what happends? I stutter and get confused "Why did I do it know?" The answer is pretty simple though, of course im gonna stutter if i speak from the state of mind with stutter in focus. We really need to eleminate all thoughts of stutter to reduce the actuall stutter.. but thats tricky.

i think its all a nerve thing... honestly when i get asked a question i start thinking what i should say, what i am going to get stuck on when i say it, and what they will do when i stutter... and i realy think that when i think so much about it is what makes me stutter...

and my name is usualy the hardest to say... honestly... Cs are my hardest to say and my name is Curt.... doesnt that suck lol
