Watched Inkheart the other day, and one of the supporting characters is a stutterer. They don't necessarily play him off as an idiot, but he certainly is seen as "less than". Let me explain:
The main character is able to bring books into being. In the past, the main character brought "the bad guy" into this world. Problem is the bad guy doesn't want to go back, so bad guy spends all his time destroying the books that the main character spoke from and bad guy is using another person with the talent to bring text to life. Problem is that person stutters, so everything or everyone that he brings to life, is defective. For instance, the other characters the stutterer brings to life have the text they are from written on their faces, etc.
At least He doesn't die in the end!
