I stumbled upon this forum awhile back and I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Chris, and I'm 21 years old. I'm currently living in Alabama, although most of my time is spent up in Richmond Virginia. I've been a stutterer for quite some time now...it was pretty mild and cyclical when I was a child, but it went from moderate to severe by the time I got to high school. After high school I went to a fluency shaping program, where I experienced initial success but eventually slipped. Currently my speech is beyond bad, but hopefully by mixing mechanical practice with mental desensitization I can make some permanent breakthroughs.

While posting on the forum I'll be most interested in hearing yalls thoughts on the psychological aspect of stuttering. Either tonight or tomorrow I'll make a post about my initial ramblings and theories, and I hope that we can all learn from our experiences! Look foreword to meeting and sharing with you guys!

Chris

Sorry to read that your speech is in a poor state at the moment. Welcome to the forum.

I was really bad at your age too man, it gets easier, you'll learn to desensitize yourself, but the first few years in college it's tough your still sort of young just starting to really grow and mature but your still around kids who love to drink and party and talk shit and etc, lol. It'll get easier your getting there but you gotta breakthrough the stormy weather and like you said desensitize yourself, you'll eventually say the hell with it and it'll get really easier from there, you'll improve your speech without even knowing why because you'll subconsciencely care less and less what other's think. Least that's my theory, lol.
