Hi
I need advice for medication that can improve my speach during stressful situations. I know, I know, there have been hundreds of threads like this, but every thread people are saying different things. I want a definite answer.
I found an article which said that citalopram and xanax can help alot. Is this true?
Im a student and I want to become a doctor (more precisely, a surgeon). Im mild stutterer (on good days very mild). I was a severe stutterer when I was a kid, but I gradually overcame it, because I put alot on pressure on myself to speak well. I will write my full introduction later.
My problem is that where I live, we have two chances to get into medical school each year. I took the first test a month ago, the written part was excellent, almost perfect., but the oral exam horrible. I was very anxious, I normally dont stutter alot, but during that test, my brain was somehow blocking badly. I sometimes cover up my stutter by sayin eehmm ehhm. But this time I was extremely nervous and I was saying ehhm ehhm all the time. I did not mention to the proffessor that I have a stutter, so he probably thought that I didnt know what I was talking about. The university didnt accept me but accepted all my friends. I was very depressed after the exam, because I was sure that if I spoke fluently, I would have been accepted.
My last chance is in 5 days, and I cannot let this happen again. My knowledge is good enough to get accepted, but my speech isnt.
What do you guys recommend that I do? I though that I should maybe take 1 mg of xanax an hour before the exam and hope for the best.
Should i mention to the proffessor that I stutter? Im not sure if the proffessor will react well. I mean, who would want a stuttering doctor?
